AKA Holiday Ale
AKA Holiday Leftover Ale
AKA Brown Sugar Substitute

This sad holiday season we didnt have the brewing capacity to make our favorite seasonal brew, the widely feared BrownShugga Ale. You see we had a couple of really good years (thank you very much) and so heading into this season while we are awaiting the January delivery of a new brewhouse we are jammin along brewing 80 barrels of IPA and PILS and such every 3 hours. A couple of months back we realized that since we can only brew a mere 60 barrels of Shugga every 5 hours, that we were seriously screwed. For every case of Shugga brewed, wed short 3 cases of our favorite daily beers. Its a drag. This year, we brewed something that we think is also cool and brews more like our daily brews. The new brewhouse will help insure this kind of failure never happens again. Its a mess that we can not brew our BrownShugga this year and we suck for not doing it. There is nothing cool about screwing this up this badly and we know it. Maybe we can sue our own sorry selves. There is no joy in our hearts this holiday and the best we can hope for is a quick and merciful end. F*@& us. This totally blows. Whatever. We freaking munch moldy donkey butt and we just want it to be all over...
So this substitute beer is a Cereal Medley of Barley, Rye, Wheat, and Oats. Full of complexishness from the 4 grains, and weighing in at 8% abv, Then joyously dry-hopped for that big aroma and resinous hop flavor.

Clear gold pour with white head. Aroma is grapefruit and mango. Taste follows nose with addition of zest. One of my favorites.

Draft sample. Gold in colour with medium carbonation. Great aromas of mango, white grapefruit and guava. Very tropical hoppy in the mouth as well, but with a substantial herbal note too. Theres a lean grain element there too thats hard to describe, but it definitely provides some balance. Substantial hop bitterness. Nicely done overall.

Pours a clear golden color. Aroma is dank pungent hops. Flavor is more pungent hops with a slightly garlic/onion character. Finishes bone dry with a very smooth bitterness. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

A very solid imperial IPA from Lagunitas. Has a large amount of hops and bitterness but it goes down pretty smooth.

Very clear amber colored pour, lots of bubbles, durable head. The looks remind me of Sierra Nevada Celebration, and thats a very good start. The smell was highly potent out of the glass at an arms length. Very citric hops with a touch of pear, and the intensity is great. I could just smell this beer for a while. The taste another hop assault, as the grapefruit, tangerine, and bitter orange flavors just hit all at once. The malt is not much of a presence here except providing some sticky sweetness. Medium dense and creamy feeling in the mouth. This was a very well crafted DIPA. There is of course no substitute for Brown Shugga, but I hope they keep this one around too. Otherwise they would really suck :)

Pours a dark straw to very light copper color. Thin white head. Hoppy aroma with a bit of grain/rye. Complex flavor. Can pick up the rye. Crisp. Lots of hop flavor. Bitterness from start to finish but seems to hit different parts of the tongue.

An almost perfect west coast IPA. Crystal clear amber in color, with a sticky white head. Intensely hoppy nose, with a flavor to match. A really amazing example of the style. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

[5309-20130429] 12floz bottle. Fruity orange hops aroma. Slightly hazy, bright orange red body with a medium-lasting foamy white head. Fruity orange citrus grain flavour. Medium body has a bitter bite. Good, nice balance. (7/3/7/3/15) 3.5
