AKA Holiday Ale
AKA Holiday Leftover Ale
AKA Brown Sugar Substitute

This sad holiday season we didn’t have the brewing capacity to make our favorite seasonal brew, the widely feared BrownShugga’ Ale. You see we had a couple of really good years (thank you very much) and so heading into this season while we are awaiting the January delivery of a new brewhouse we are jammin’ along brewing 80 barrels of IPA and PILS and such every 3 hours. A couple of months back we realized that since we can only brew a mere 60 barrels of Shugga’ every 5 hours, that we were seriously screwed. For every case of Shugga’ brewed, we’d short 3 cases of our favorite daily beers. It’s a drag. This year, we brewed something that we think is also cool and brews more like our daily brews. The new brewhouse will help insure this kind of failure never happens again. It’s a mess that we can not brew our BrownShugga’ this year and we suck for not doing it. There is nothing cool about screwing this up this badly and we know it. Maybe we can sue our own sorry selves. There is no joy in our hearts this holiday and the best we can hope for is a quick and merciful end. F*@& us. This totally blows. Whatever. We freaking munch moldy donkey butt and we just want it to be all over...
So this substitute beer is a ‘Cereal Medley’ of Barley, Rye, Wheat, and Oats…. Full of complexishness from the 4 grains, and weighing in at 8% abv, Then joyously dry-hopped for that big aroma and resinous hop flavor.

Bottle to glass, the aroma was fantastic. Aroma was grapefruits and citrus, spiciness of rye as well. Very pleasant nose. Cloudy in appearance. Very good malt backing to match the hops, more balanced than I expected. A little sweeter than I would have liked but it wasn't that out of place when the aftertaste of the hops comes in. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours light gold, good presentation. Beer has a strong hop flavor, but not overwhelming like Hopslam or similar beers. Palate sits in the bitter zone for about 2-3 mins then fades out. Not boozy at all despite relatively high ABV.

UPDATED: JUL 10, 2014 The only thing that sucks about this is I didnt try it sooner. Aroma is malt, citrus, rye and wheat. Poured into glass. Pale gold, moderate lacing and head. Taste is malt, citrus and lingering bitterness. Nice mouthful not to dry. Very good easy to drink, especially at 7 plus percent. Another great beer from a great brewery! Cheers

Bottle. Big citrus hops in the nose. Holy cow! Taste is a mash of grapefruit and grains. Definitely get a little rye and wheat.

Bottle. As for the nose, the room is filled with orange-citric and dank wooden hops before I even get the crown all the way off, strong caramel base with dough and spice, plenty of rindy-pithy character and wonderful lychee and mango, guava. Pours rich clear golden with lower-than-average carbonation and a large creamy white head. Taste medium bitter, lightly sweet but drying out somewhat and resolving to that nice bread, which meets a subtle warmth at the back of the throat. Very oily with lighter resinous qualities, strong hoppy flavors remain and have additional grassy/herbal notes here on the down-low. Clean medium body not as crisp as I’d like. Very bright, alive, and yes, joyous! Awesome stuff.

Bottle pour avg gold. Nose grapefruit citrus on resin. Taste grapefruit bite up font followed by resinous hop. Early palate through mid sweetness. Nice bitter finish.

Pours a lovely amber with a quickly dissipating head and a noticeable amount of carbonation. Smell is rather complex; a variety of malts and hops of the citrus variety. The taste is surprisingly bitter. So very easy to put down for such taste, flavor, and alcohol content.

12 oz bottle picked up in Asheville only to find Lagunitas is now in Ohio. Pours a clear dark golden/light amber color with a medium sized off white head. The aroma and flavor have nice citrus, orange, tangerine, some resiny hops, lightly toasted bread, a hint of spicy character with mild to moderate bitterness. Very tasty beer at a reasonable cost.

Six pack from BevMo. Easy drinker with a tropical aroma. Stands up to Sculpin and costs a bit less. On the go to list from now on.

Bottle. One of the better "six-pack" IPAs out there. Smells good but taste is better -- a nicely bitter grapefruit bomb. Easy drinker. Hard to beat for the price.
