AKA Holiday Ale
AKA Holiday Leftover Ale
AKA Brown Sugar Substitute

This sad holiday season we didn’t have the brewing capacity to make our favorite seasonal brew, the widely feared BrownShugga’ Ale. You see we had a couple of really good years (thank you very much) and so heading into this season while we are awaiting the January delivery of a new brewhouse we are jammin’ along brewing 80 barrels of IPA and PILS and such every 3 hours. A couple of months back we realized that since we can only brew a mere 60 barrels of Shugga’ every 5 hours, that we were seriously screwed. For every case of Shugga’ brewed, we’d short 3 cases of our favorite daily beers. It’s a drag. This year, we brewed something that we think is also cool and brews more like our daily brews. The new brewhouse will help insure this kind of failure never happens again. It’s a mess that we can not brew our BrownShugga’ this year and we suck for not doing it. There is nothing cool about screwing this up this badly and we know it. Maybe we can sue our own sorry selves. There is no joy in our hearts this holiday and the best we can hope for is a quick and merciful end. F*@& us. This totally blows. Whatever. We freaking munch moldy donkey butt and we just want it to be all over...
So this substitute beer is a ‘Cereal Medley’ of Barley, Rye, Wheat, and Oats…. Full of complexishness from the 4 grains, and weighing in at 8% abv, Then joyously dry-hopped for that big aroma and resinous hop flavor.

Tap. Pours golden with a small white head. Tropical fruit, light pine, sweet bread, and floral hops come to mind. Bitter citrus and fruity hops galore! Drinks pretty good and moderate carbonation. Nice stuff

Pours a golden yellow color that has a sparkle to it. Aroma is distinctly floral along with its taste. Notes of grass, herbs, and high amounts of malt are tasted in this beer. A decent IPA that was complex and made with quality.

Golden straw with a big head. Smells mostly like tropical fruit with hints of grass and hops. Flavor is at first subtle and unremarkable but blooms into bread, hops, fruit and just a hint of brown sugar. Foamy in the mouth. Very different and quite good.

On tap at PreFunk Boise. Very nice clear golden with a dense and lasting off white head. Big fresh citrusy aroma. A big bitter flavor. Ligt malts but something else. Similar to the "wild" IPAs of their past. Some tropical fruit as well. Smooth creamy body and mild carbonation.

Draft at the Distillery in Savannah, GA. Holy shit! Beautiful, almost Pilsner looking pour with a two finger pillow white head. I could smell the aroma from about 2 ft away. Pine resin, pine tree, Christmas tree, spruce, douglas fir, you name it....it smelled like pine. Walking through a damned Oregon Pine forest pine. The taste...pine! Great, fairly light IPA taste but the pine and pine bitterness was amazing and fresh. Little cereal and bread. Great carbonation. Finish is pine. Fuck it...probably the best DIPA I’ve ever had. I could drink this until the cows come home. I don’t have any cows so that would be a long time.

Bottle from 16 Tons Taphouse, Eugene. Pours a dull copper color, little to no head. Aroma burnished resin, some caramel malt notes, too. Body full and round, with a well-balanced, if slightly syrupy finish. Not a go-to for me, but I get why people like it.

(bottle - 12 oz) Gold orange pour with a fizzy head. Lots of pine and grapefruit in the aroma. Flavor has a good amount of grapefruit which helps to balance out the bitter resin flavors. Really smooth and really easy to drink.

12oz bottle pours a pure amber with a thick white head excellent lacing. Aromas of, citrus, spruce, and fresh hops. TG Pseudo Sue might get jealous. This is one excellent brew.
