AKA Holiday Ale
AKA Holiday Leftover Ale
AKA Brown Sugar Substitute

This sad holiday season we didn’t have the brewing capacity to make our favorite seasonal brew, the widely feared BrownShugga’ Ale. You see we had a couple of really good years (thank you very much) and so heading into this season while we are awaiting the January delivery of a new brewhouse we are jammin’ along brewing 80 barrels of IPA and PILS and such every 3 hours. A couple of months back we realized that since we can only brew a mere 60 barrels of Shugga’ every 5 hours, that we were seriously screwed. For every case of Shugga’ brewed, we’d short 3 cases of our favorite daily beers. It’s a drag. This year, we brewed something that we think is also cool and brews more like our daily brews. The new brewhouse will help insure this kind of failure never happens again. It’s a mess that we can not brew our BrownShugga’ this year and we suck for not doing it. There is nothing cool about screwing this up this badly and we know it. Maybe we can sue our own sorry selves. There is no joy in our hearts this holiday and the best we can hope for is a quick and merciful end. F*@& us. This totally blows. Whatever. We freaking munch moldy donkey butt and we just want it to be all over...
So this substitute beer is a ‘Cereal Medley’ of Barley, Rye, Wheat, and Oats…. Full of complexishness from the 4 grains, and weighing in at 8% abv, Then joyously dry-hopped for that big aroma and resinous hop flavor.

Pours a clear golden amber with a thick and rather persistent buff head. Aroma is strongly hoppy, more at an IPA, with hints of malt and caramel. Flavor is quite hoppy, yet more sweet than bitter, with hints of caramel and horehound in attendance. Texture is firm and smooth, yet lively and fizzy. IPA? Strong ale? Who cares - contrary to the name, it doesn’t suck at all.

Big hop aroma. Nice hoppy, piney flavor. That beer definitely doesn't "suck"!

Pours clear dark gold. Half inch thick white head. Sweet resinous smell. Slick low carbonation mouthfeel. Hoppy flavor without harsh bitterness. Overall excellent beer.

A great IPA that’s released during Imperial Porter time! As always another great beer from Lagunitas! Aroma comes off very hoppy and smooth with a very refreshing taste.....a good beer to finish off a hard days work!

UPDATED: FEB 12, 2014 Lagunitas is one of the best, ’bargain’ top shelf breweries out there. However, most of their stuff, while very good, is not really ’top tier’ stuff. There are a few exceptions however. Their Hop Stoopid, 100ibu, Imperial IPA, is really excellent, and simply impossible to beat for the price. And then there’s this year’s Lagunitas Sucks. It’s, put simply, the best beer Lagunitas has made, even including previous iterations of Sucks. It has some of that dank, oniony character that has become a staple in Stone’s Enjoy-By series. Pouts a gorgeous amber, aroma is vibrant with onion, pine and grapefruit. Taste is sweet, lots of pine, dry aftertaste. It’s superlatively balanced, and tastes huge for a 7.5%. Honestly, I wish they made this a year round. It obliterates their Little Sumpin series, which I also really like. For 10.99 a six pack, there is no better beer.

This is the best beer Lagunitas makes (in my opinion). The hops and malts are balanced so well with the citrus flavor and you get all the flavors at once. The hops are not overwhelming in the beer at all and create a perfect contradiction to the malts. Bitter, but not too bitter. I love this beer and would recommend it to beer enthusiasts, experts, fans, and even craft beer beginners.

Extremely aromatic, juicy fruit on the nose. Flavor is rye spiciness, floral hops, citrus, sauv blanc grapes. Moderate bitterness. Pretty damn perfect IPA.

Bottle, thanks Paul. Amber with white head. Absolutely stinks of hops, resinius pine, mango, orange. Taste is very resinous and piney with mango and caramel. Little sweet and a bitter finish. Excellent.

Pours a bright gold color with a creamy white/gold head. Aroma is citrus and resin and a bit of sweetness underneath. Taste is, in the very first instant, sweet, then resin and grapefruit. There is a nice creaminess from the oats and a subtle touch of wheat. Finish is long and leaves your mouth watering, waiting for the next drink.
