"Heres Lookin Atcha!"

Laying there, staring up at the ceiling, head pounding, last night was a dim recollection. How did he get home? Was he alone? Looking to the left and right, the answer was yes, maybe. His head was full of rag water, bitters, and the blue ruin. His teeth felt like hed been chewing aluminum and his breath smelled like a burning tractor tire. There was a wrenching knot somewhere between his liver and East St. Louis and he couldnt be sure whether or not hed wet himself. A yellow sine wave rang in his ears so loud nit made his teeth itch and he was sure that if he touched his skin anywhere it would induce a rhythmic retching jag. Even in the face of all that, he found himself smiling at the realization that today represented the fresh breast of a new year- an undiscovered country- and also there was still one warm, half-full, flat redolent Hairy Eyeball on the nightstand. Yes-there is a God.

Appearance is dark brown red. Taste of molases, mix fruit and nice slight bitter finish. Reminds me of Averys The Reverand. Both good beers...

If theres one thing that Lagunitas does really well its pairing big hops and big malt together. So many of their beers can only be given the catch-all Strong Ale designation, yet theyre all so unique from one another. Hairy Eyeball, at least in the variant I tried, was a surprisingly approachable West Coast Ale. Yes, this brown-colored brew does have a fruity, floral, and herbaceous hop profile, but I mostly picked up on the malt character. Caramel, succulent dark fruit, and brown sugar. The booze is well-hidden on the palate but puts a little pleasant warmth in the stomach.

The appearance includes a medium sized semi-fizzy ivory head that is mostly lasting, mahogany body, slow rising carbonation observed, and a fair amount of lacing. The aroma is toffee, alcohol, dark fruit, earthy, and caramel malt. The flavor presents toffee, alcohol, dark fruit, earthy, sweet, caramel malt, and a semi-dry finish. The mouthfeel is moderate carbonation with a warming effect. This beer is medium-full bodied. This is another good beer from Lagunitas. It is a tasty sipping beer and very malty tasting. This is a good winter beer that is worth trying and a beer that I would drink again.

Draft. A- Fruity, caramel. A- Reddish brown color, hazy liquid, off white head. T- Caramel, fruity, slightly sweet. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, malty finish. O- Interesting. Expected a lot of bitterness and malty notes but it was quite fruity and a bit sweet. Pretty easy to drink, at least more so than I expected.

Another strong beer. This one has some very spirit like flavors. Strong with the hops and alcohol. Alcohol comes through. The body is malty with some wood and spice.

Review is of a bomber about 2 years old. Pours an extremely dark walnut body. Head is beige and 1/5th of an inch. Smell is heavy on toffee, caramel, biscuit malt, and chocolate malt. Smells like somewhere between a bock, dubbel, and barleywine. For 9%, alcohol isnt very present, neither are hops. Taste is a big malt bomb. Getting some fruity esters similar to a dubbel, but less spice. Caramel, toffee, burnt biscuits and light char take over as beer warms. Alcohol is there but not too overpowering, no hops at all. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, well carbonated with a nice head that stuck around for awhile. Overall this beer was unique and one note at the same time. Got a ton of malt from the beer, yeast strain must have been something Belgian, dont know where else the dried fruit characteristics would come from. Even though it was very sweet and malty I think itd make a good dessert beer.

sweet malty caramel and fruity aroma maybe some citrusy and or piney hops evident too but way in second..very nice reddish dark brown clear liquid with filmy off white head some lacing..tastes like it smells sort of a fruity barleywine style maltiness with some tingly hop presence not bad at all..thick and slightly oily on the palate though not sticky with a slightly dry finish that lingers..overall a cross between a strong barleywine and a sweet brown ale with just enough hops good stuff and not expensive either

Bottle form McHughs. Pours tea reddish brown with off white head. Fairly clear in appearance. Caramel, earthy, nutty aroma. A lot of whiskey and barleywine aroma. Flavour is a caramel sticky malt, a mild oak whiskey finish. Fairly smooth and tasty.

12 oz bottle at home. Pours a deep amber/copper color with a medium sized off white head. The aroma and flavor have sweet malts, caramel, toffee, some dark fruit, a slightly nutty and earthy character, decent enough.

For my 900th rating, I got a beer that Ive heard of and had to import from Mammoth when I was skiing. Big, malty barleywine aroma from a beautiful copper/tan body with a thin off-white head. Sweet light and dark caramel and toffee flavors mix with a nice alcohol bite, both sides of which are so well balanced and keep things under control. There is some bitterness under this, but it seems hidden under the malt sweetness. The flavors swirl around like delicious candy and finally end on a lasting sweet note with some bitterness finally standing on its own. A very delicious and deviously strong ale. Ill most likely be waking up with hairy eyeballs tomorrow.....

Pours red-amber with a small off white head. Aroma is molasses and heavy malted grains. Taste is syrupy malts with sweetness coming out more in the mid. Taste is nice, but not super complex.
