COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We brewed this especially bitter ale in dedication to all the worlds would-be astronauts, in remembrance of the 2005 St. Patricks Day Massacre on the Brewery Party Grounds and also in joyous celebration of our 20-day suspension that following January. Do the crime. Do the time. Get the bragging rights. Cheers!

Good. I had a very small tasting from a friend. It was the last bottle so I couldn't get a good eval. It's definitely worth trying again. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle at Antenna America. Great stuff, dark fruits and toffee dominate the complex flavors, rich and smooth, syrupy body with some barley wine qualities.

UPDATED: JUL 15, 2015 Really like this beer. Great taste. Identified it for entry in a beer competition and was not disappointed. Highly recommend for a good evening of beer tasting. String enough to make you respect it but the product delivers a nice zing. Definitely making me a Lagunitas fan.

12 ounce bottle poured into a pint glass. Wonderful hops and some citrus in the nose. Super rich malt in the initial sip then a slight bit of alcohol burn as it slides down your gullet. The taste warms on your tongue like a hearth fire on a cool early autumn night

Bottle. Ruby brown hues with a tight tan head. Pine and caramel aroma. Bitter hoppy taste with some dark fruit and caramelized sugar and spice. Very good. Rich and resinous. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap at TK. Hazy dark brown pour with a tan head. Dark roasted malt, spices and caramel. Nice boozy element in the finish.

Bottle - Pours a clear, deep amber with a creamy head and lacing. Sweet bread and some citrus aromas. Also some alcohol in the nose. Whoa, a lot going on here: heavy malts, citrus and a warming finish that could be better. More of a winter beer. Very good.

So many breweries have great stories, but the outlaw escapade that inspired Undercover Investigation Shut-Down Ale is one for the legends. Apparently, when life gives Lagunitas lemons (or, you know, an undercover investigation shut-down) they made lemona- Er, I mean, really great beer. Shut-Down Ale pours lovely amber with eggshell-colored suds and some of the best lacing Ive ever seen. Aroma is weirdly wonderful. Savory, herbacous hops, soapiness, toffee, molasses, and booze. Flavor showcases syrupy sweetness and resinous bitterness. You really do get the fullness of both extremes, too, which can take getting used to. Fortunately, the booze is happy to help you get used to it with its warmth and candy-like taste. Basically, drinking this ale is such a hedonistic delight (all the more perfect with 66.6 IBUs) that youll feel like youre screwing with your clothes on. This different from being screwed with your clothes on, which is undoubtedly what an undercover shut-down must feel like.
