Similar in tone to most other lagunitas specialty brews, this one wins out due to near immaculate balance of malt and hops. Pours brown-gold with slight receding head, crisp hop nose chased by enveloping toffee tones on the palate, in turn chased with typical lagunitas high IBUs, this one gets to hang around in the cellar a while, just to see what happens. Bottle at home from ØlKonsortiet. Pours clear, dark amber with a nice head. Fruity, hoppy aroma, medium body, malty flavour. Finishes balanced with some bitter aftertaste. petermadsen (390) - Vesterbronxxx, DENMARK - SEP 2, 2007
Copper coloured beer with a nice dense head. Aroma is hoppy, mostly pines, grapefruit and citrus. There’s some sweetness in the aroma too.
The flavour is moderately hopped in a nice and parfumed way. There is some caramel sweetness backing the hops up. The end is nice and bitter but leaves your lips a bit glued together.
A nice one, but not outstanding. joshmcg000 (388) - Iowa, USA - MAY 30, 2013
UPDATED: JUN 12, 2013 Pours clear copper with nice carbonation, good looking beer. Aroma is Brown sugar grainy malts with citrus hops. Bitter piney hops with a little bit of citrus in there. Overall its heavy on the malt side and very rich and full of flavor. Good. NJJereme (387) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - JUL 8, 2009
Bottle. Pours a beautiful amber color with a nice off-white head. Aroma of caramel, hint of raisin, and pine. It is very heavy on the bitterness, one of the hoppiest things I have ever consumed. Medium bodied. Finishes a little like brandy, warm as it courses through the digestive system. Very nice.

Great looking orange pour with a lacey head. Big aroma of resiny hops and a bit of citrus. The finish is pretty hot and alcoholic, but a nice pretty dry finish KapitiCritique (379) - Kansas City, Missouri, USA - AUG 18, 2011
AROMA: Malts and yeast, nice nose
APPEARANCE: brilliant red-brown, very clear, good head and lacing
TASTE: rounded, hops and malt, very full
PALATE: slightly creamy, a bit effervescent, nice finish
OVERALL: Excellent, had to drink several just to make sure

When I hear strong ale I don’t normally know what to expect. But when I hear lagunitas i usually expect greatness. This is a very good beer. It’s not just crazy hops like a lot of lagunitas beers, it’s smooth and creamy and hoppy as hell. It’s a great beer, and probably my favorite strong ale to date. coolfunnj (374) - Margate City, New Jersey, USA - JUN 21, 2010
caramel maple and slightly roasty maltinessand citrusy hops balanced along with a pear type aroma..nice clear dark red/bronze brown color pure white head dissipates to quarter inch ring..tastes bitter but with a strong maltiness much like an east coast ipa..strong citrus and piney hops along with the malty flavors mentioned in the aroma, more of a smoky roasty flavor than smell however..very easily drinkable and it was a pretty hot day so it warmed fast..maltiness more pronounced as it warms..overall excellent ipa for any season and as always extra points for costing under 10 bucks for a 6 pack
