In 1971, the Waldos met one afteroon at 4:20 in the front courtyard of their school near the statue of Louis Pasteur. They set out in a ’66 Impala armed with a "treasure map" on a journey to find a secret garden near Point Reyes. They met there at the same time every day and continued their quest. They never found the secret garden....But they keep lookin’. The dankest and hoppiest beer ever brewed at Lagunitas was made with help of the Waldos for all treasure hunters.

On tap: The aroma consists of huge citrus, tropical fruits, lemon, and dank hops. It’s a transparent golden-orange with a small white head that fades to a thin film outlined by a thin ring. The flavor starts with citrus, tropical fruits, and pineapple. The finish has moderate grapefruit with light-moderate dank hops and mild lemon. It’s medium bodied with mild carbonation.

Bright golden orange with a slight hone-finger dense white head and modest lace. Dank juicy hop aromas full of citrus and pine. Grapefruit, mango, orange peel, lemon, tangerine, pineapple, resin and medicinal herbs. Light malt hints of caramel/bread and grains with some yeast. Taste is similar, with big pine resin and citrus up front Solid malt notes of caramel, grains, and cracker emerge to counter the bitter hops, but without the syrups mess the ABV might imply. Full bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation, chewy creamy mouthfeel, and a dry finish. Alcohol heat is subtle for 11.5%. Overall: A great juicy explosion of hop tones. Big citrus and pine flavors with a definite 420 scent.

Refrigerated 12 oz. squat brown bottle poured into a snifter. Beatiful deep opaque orange with small/medium white head. Aroma is pretty nice grapefruit hops & malt, medium/thick body, medium carbonation, and little lacing. Taste is alcohol, pine hops, some grapefruit hops, and malt backbone. Alcohol is just to prevelent in the taste of this beer.

The Waldo’s Special Ale has a medium, off-white head, a mostly clear, honey-colored appearance, some bubbles, and a bit of lacing left behind. The aroma is of strong, apricot-like hop resin, up front, and background white bread, and a spice, of some sort, maybe. Taste is of those elements, with very intense and profound hop bitterness. Mouthfeel is high medium, and The Waldo’s Special Ale finishes drying and strong. RJT

Lots of hop flavors and aromas backed up with a well hidden malt backbone and sweetness that will eventually overcome the bitterness and make this beer have a fairly short shelf life.

Wow, this is a fantastic imperial IPA, maybe the best I’ve had. Its super sweet, which disguises the ridiculous ABV. VERY potent fruitiness, mostly tropical with some citrus.

Growler, orangy amber beer, big white head with orangish tint. Aroma is spruce, resin, malt, hint of mint. Taste is minty resin, mango, tangerine, citrus rind. Palate is rich and smooth, carbonation average.
