Had this on nitro so there are some givens. Basically it looks and feels great. Nice aroma with roasted malt and a little bourbon. Not much bourbon in the taste though. Roasted malt and a bit of chocolate. Nice beer. I enjoyed it.
A little disappointed with this one. Had on nitro, maybe bad lines? Had a real metallic taste to it, like sucking on a quarter. Would like to try it again w/o nitro. kaser (6214) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - FEB 6, 2015
Choclate and cocoa nibs aroma. Taste is the same with an hint of cherry. Not getting any bourbon but it is tasty. Draft pour at the lake bluff brewing tap room. esjaygee (3904) - Oak Creek, Wisconsin, USA - NOV 4, 2013
On tap at Lake Bluff brewpub. Translucent dark brown with nary a head in sight. Aroma of dark roasted malts, light oak, peat and a hint of bourbon. Taste is peaty and chocolaty with vanilla, star anise and a hint of bourbon. sparty26 (1) - Illinois, USA - SEP 28, 2013 does not count
Had on tap at the brewery. In a pint, color is rich with subtle red undertones. Taste is good but could be richer. Thought there would be a fuller head or more of a bourbon taste.

Draft at the brewery. Near black with ruby and a tan head. Dark fruit and bourbon. Big flavor upfront but thin at the end.

UPDATED: SEP 15, 2013 Tasted on tap at Lake Bluff Brewery. Dark brown with a quickly dissipating head. It looked like a flat Coke within minutes. Bold chocolate malt aroma. Very smooth chocolate malt taste with a hint of vanilla. Very tasty.

Aroma of coffee...dark roasted malt. Nice ebony color. Taste of molasses, coffe and dark choclate...mildly bitter finish. robobeerbelly (78) - Wisconsin, USA - MAY 5, 2013
When i asked for this beer they warned me it was a stronger beer. It might be on alcohol content but it was one of the smoothest beers I’ve ever had. Excellent flavor. I highly recommend this. TheAlum (7164) - Aurora, Illinois, USA - MAR 10, 2012
Sampler flight on tap at the brewpub (Lake Bluff, IL). Pours a rich blackish brown hue, not opaque as the body shows a rick bitter chocolate hue, with reddish brown edges, a bigger frothy tannish head sits atop and dies to a solid film. Firm lacing. Aromas are gentle toast and roast, kicks of vanilla, gentle cocoa. A subtle oak quality and just a touch of spirit, but very light (too light, really). Mellow sweetness and roast linger. Initial is medium bodied offering cocoa and roast up front, gentle toffee as the middle gets a touch sweeter, vanilla, touches of oak, no real spirit. A touch of anise, dark fruit, with some spirit. Just a touch of black olive thrown in there. Finish is sweeter again, some pretzels and biscuits, toffee preaches a bit. Mellow toast, toffee, and vanilla. A touch of cherry, oak, and some odd dryness and toasty roast into the finish. Oak doesn’t come into focus here, beer seems unfocused and has some issues. On it’s on, it’s ok.. But with the big ABV and supposed Bourbon activity, I’m kinda floored it’s so light and forgettable.
