From bottle, blind #20. Pours dark brown to black with a small tan head. Dry wooden hoppy aroma, light roasted too. Liqourice, roasted malt and subdued sweetness to a distinct crisp hoppy base flavour. Bitter and roasted malt flavoured finish with a lasting liqourice impression. Nice one. Bottled. A pitch black beer with a brown head. The aroma is sweet with notes of roasted malt and wood as well as lighter notes of soy sauce. The flavor is sweet malty combined with notes of roasted malt and lighter notes of soy sauce and wood. Thanks Papsoe for sharing. joergen (30211) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - MAY 30, 2009

Very dark, almost black color; medium head. There is some dusty aroma of roasted malts, barley coffee, light acidity. Good mouthfeel, quite smooth, but also too acidic, with quite strong roasted malt flavor, but a bit too dry and sour at the end; strong chocolate flavor too; the final is a bit creamy, which elevates a bit the fortune of this beer.
#20 - Amerikaner Blind-Smagning 29-Maj-2009 hos Papsoe. Bottle. Citric, high malty, roasted, licorice, berries, light hoppy, fruity, chcolate, light wood notes. crossovert (14467) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JUL 20, 2014
Draft. Dark pour, listed as 8% abv. Cocoa, dark fruits, pretty nice russian imperial stout. slowrunner77 (13912) - Reno, Nevada, USA - OCT 4, 2014
"courtesy pfoxyjohn...pours dark brown, almost black, but not quite. body is medium-full. smaller than some impies i’ve had but not bad. aroma is a tad on the weak side. chocolate, malts, licorice. no sign of 12% til it’s close to room temp. i;d have guessed 8-9. a little more bitter in the finish, with more cocoa in the flavor. nice, but not with the depth of character that the best impy’s have."

12oz bottle acquired in trade. Poured a dark brown color with a small sized tan head. My 1st impression was that the aroma was off. I just couldn’t put my finger on it. This off aroma died down somewhat as the beer aired out. Aromas of sour cherries, roast, chocolate, caramel, and woody. Tastes of roast, chocolate, coffee, licorice and some tobacco. I thought this was thin for an imperial stout. Just noticed that this was 12%, I never would have guessed that! Sammy (13353) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - APR 30, 2012
Bottle from O’Reilly’s in late summer. Pours thickish looking very dark brown to black colour, with a bit of white head. Aroma, some roast and chocolate. Above average mouthfeel, though not at today’s standard of IS.Good drinkability, competent for the style.
