Brewed in the classic Scotch Ale style dating back to the 1700’s, with a deep reddish brown color. Full of body, sweetness and flavor. Higher in alcohol content but possessing a smooth and lightly hopped finish. Best served at 45 degrees F in a room temperature pint glass. For the ’Big Beer’ drinkers among us.

Took a trip through Arena, WI (pop. 685) recently with a friend. I saw the sign while we were driving, and I though to myself, "Arena... Arena... where do I know that from?" Then I realized that Lake Louie, an excellent but little-known microbrewery, is based there. Needless to say, we had to stop at a liquor store immediately and stock up. Anyway... 12 oz bottle. Pours a nice amber red color. Slight off-white head, dissipates quickly, but leaves a good lacing. Aroma is malt and peat, somewhat tart. Flavor is less peaty than other scotch ales I’ve had, but there’s still an element of smokiness that goes well with the caramel malt flavors. Tangy and very smooth finish. Overall, not the strongest or most flavorful Scotch ale I’ve had, but it does down so easy I really can’t argue.

Pours a deep amber with a thin, off white head. The aroma contains toffee, earthy and toasted malts, raisin, bread, and hints of peat. The taste is dry and lightly bitter. Its very earthy and is heavy in toffee. There is a strong foundation of coffee, has raisin, light cherry, is lightly toasted and herbal, and has a bit of oak. Bready as well. Herbal toffee aftertaste. Medium in body and smooth in texture. This is an excellent choice if you're looking for malty. Its also a very good effort in this style.

Pint glass of draft beer at Final Approach, Milwaukee, May 2017. Nice, deep, amber color. Rich malty taste with lots of hoppy flavors. A great American twist on Scottish dark ales.

UPDATED: MAR 6, 2017 Served way too cold it seems...Hardly any smell and watery taste...Seems much more like a dopplebock than a scotch ale in my experience...Watery...Much stronger as it warms...Now it?s more like a scotch ale..At landfill course in Wisconsin!

Patrickctenchi (6810) - Cox’s Knob, columbus, Indiana, USA - JAN 22, 2017

Light grain and cereal malts, light caramel. Clear, dark amber, small, creamy, off-white head. Intense caramel, biscuit, come coffee, dry, toasted malts, lively carbonation. Very nice palate, yet aroma is way too weak. Keg at The Old Fashioned, Madison, WI.

tmongoose (2504) - Louisville, Kentucky, USA - AUG 14, 2016
bottle to pint glass. poured a mahogany red color with off white head. slight lacing on the glass. the aroma is lightly roasted malts, caramel, slight toffee, the flavor is more of the same. this is a basic straight up scotch ale nothing fancy just a middle of the road solid flavor of a scotch ale. nice caramel sweet malt flavor tinges of toffee and slightly roasted malts. very drinkable and delicious.

BlackBeerPG (981) - Darien, Illinois, USA - MAY 3, 2016
