COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Pours with dark amber, burnt orange, copper colour and off-white, ecru-coloured foam. The aromatics are primarily citrus (grapefruit) with a subtle pine note. After the first scent, the malt aromatics come through slight hint of toffee with some mild aromas of hay and straw. The body of the beer is roasted malts, dark toffee, a gentle molasses flavour and a touch of black licorice. The mouth feel is rounded and very dry. The finish is moderate-to-bold bitterness that lingers longer but is very pleasant. The finish is enveloping and builds with each sip.

October 6, 2012 ; 6% abv, 750 mL bottle, BBD Oct 29/12; rock glass Citrus hops dominate. Pours a caramel colour with a nice tan head. Good looking beer. Balanced caramel malts with grapefruit citrus hops. Resin finish is lingering. A little thin in the body but overall, clean character. Highly drinkable, which isnt a great thing for an IPA (I think). Resin bitterness is a bit too powerful.

Pours clear copper color with a large off-white head. Resin on the nose, slight metallic notes, orange, old hops. Flavor is nutty, malty, licorice notes, distant pineapple, dried fruits, some hop notes, metal tones. A bit old, and feels like it.

Can from Loblaws. Clear amber body with a thin white head. Low carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of dried orange peel and caramel. Flavour of light hops, metal and tonic water. Thin body with a watery mouthfeel. Soft fizz. Weak and inoffensive.

Pours amber with a decent head that leaves some lacing. Nose is grapefruit and pine. Flavour is malts and a bit of citrus, but watered down. Had potential but didnt deliver.

Can from LCBO. Dark amber. Caramelly and toffee-y overall character with resiny bitterness. A bit rough, not too well rounded. Not very keen on this.

Fairly standard IPA. Good but not exceptional. Amber colour, decent amount of hoppy bitterness and traces of smoke in the malt. Highly drinkable but not unique.

Appearance: clear pale to medium amber with one fat finger of fluffy white head, good retention and moderate lacing. (3/5) Aroma: resiny pine, pithy grapefruit, pale malt, tropical fruit. (8/10) Taste: moderate sweet, moderate bitter. (7/10) Palate: medium body, moderate carbonation, off-dry lingering bitter finish. (3/5) Much better than their Crosswind Pale Ale. Actually a halfway decent example of an American IPA, with piney and citrusy hops leading the way over just enough pale malt to balance. Ends with a lingering resiny bitter finish. A little rough around the edges, perhaps, but a solid performer. (14/20)
