Looks like a coke. With head. Very strong coffee scent. Dark chocolate and something sweet. Very smoky mouth. Smoked cheese, smoked chocolate cheese. Thick. Sweet. Rich. Heavy. Nice but very rich, a bit too much. Good but a bit unbalanced.

Strong coffee aroma and flavour with some smoke. Little head and carbonation. Was hoping for a creamier mouth feel but decent beverage.

Pours dark brown with a creamy beige head. A good mocha and coffee aroma. Flavours are excellent, mocha, coffee with a smokey background. Medium body and low carbination. They nailed this one, I’ll definitely be drinking this again

750ml bottle. Poured a thick creamy brownish head, very bubbly. Has an extremely dark colour. Good lacing and retention. Average carbonation. Mocha, coffee, chocolate in flavour as well as aroma. Some sweetness and a slight watery mouthfeel. Somewhat mild. Notes of molasses in the finish. Pretty easy drinking and not as thick as expected.

Bottle shared with Ellen. Mahogany with a fading beige head. Nice chocolate and coffee aroma. The taste is more chocolate and coffee, but also liquorice with a bit of a burnt paper finish. A bit on the thin side. Nice.

Pours jet black with a nice size, creamy, tan head. Aroma is of dark coffee beans, roasted barley and dark chocolate. Tastes of espresso, chocolate, and roasted barley. Has a smooth medium body with low carbonation. Had a dry feeling with bitterness from the coffee, great lacing too.

0.5 draft. Clear, dark brown color with a reddish tinge and a small, off-white head. Aroma of coffee and butter, the former obviously dominating the entire experience. Taste is likewise composed of coffee but this time more chocolate too boot. A medium body, a creamy texture, and a flat carbonation. Finish is coffee, coffee, and once again coffee. Overall not a bad beer, nonetheless although it is a a coffee porter it should feature more complexity than just plain espresso flavors.

Minimal tan head, rich dark brown body. Aroma of cocoa. Taste of cocoa and light sweetness. Not bitter, very little coffee flavour. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Coffee and chocolate aroma. Opaque brown colour. Bitter coffee front with sour finish. Heavy body with lively carbonation. A bit of an odd beer.

Aroma is fairly subtle but I get chocolate, mocha, vanilla and coffee. Taste is light and not too complex overall, same chocolate and vanilla and caramels as aroma but sadly finished quite flat. Appearance is black with a thin pearl head that retains fairly poorly.

I’ve had this in past years and was on the fence about picking up the 2014. Glad I did. They’ve upped the abv by more than a 50% increase, and the aromas and flavours seem to pop all the more for it. The body is dark, the head is mocha. Not a lot of lacing going on. Aromas are mocha, dark bitter chocolate, and cafe au lait. A fairly thick mouthfeel, borderline syrupy. The tastes are a beautiful blend of bitter and sweet. Dark chocolate, some coffee, but a mocha sweetness in the mix too. Even a hint of red fruit giving it some juiciness. Overall, they’ve greatly improved the recipe in my opinion, and I’d pick up this version annually. Gladly.
