On tap at the pub.The color is a dark brown with a beige head. The aroma is of roasted malt ,barleyand yeast. The taste is of barley, malt with some sweetness to it and bitterness at the same time.I did not find it that strong but good.

Bottle; poured a very dark auburn brown color with a khaki, frothy head. Aroma of nuts, caramel, must, and some sweetness. Flavor had more fruitiness, of the overripe variety, and some sweetness. A touch more roasted. Did taste English, but to me was not overly great. Surprisingly a bit boozy.

12 oz bottle. Pours a deep ruby red/brown color with a slightly off white head that settles to a film. Aroma is mostly malt, roasted malt/burnt caramel, some alcohol and a touch of hops. Taste carries some of the caramel/malt aroma with it. I get a little bit of a roasted malt taste as well. I think it could use a bit more body to it, it seems a little watery. Finish carries more of a pronounced roastedness to it.

Mettalic in aroma and taste. The bottle has ruined what may be an okay beer. Behind metallic is the taste of caramel and burnt chocolate. okay thickness on the tongue but the metallic made it horrible.

UPDATED: OCT 29, 2014 Birra molto particolare di difficile inquadratura. Profumata e fruttata sia al naso che al palato, dopo una riveduta ne si apprezza l’equilibratura e la buona beverinità. Ottimo corpo e gusto amaro abbastanza pronunciato.

Dark brown pour with a dense, foamy head. Big time roasted malt aromas and some earthy hops. Flavor is straight-forward malty sweetness. For a strong ale this is quite weak but overall it’s highly drinkable.

Barreras (1689) - Diamond Bar, California, USA - JAN 1, 2014
Pours a cola color with a garnet hue. Taste is simple, almost watery. A mild sweetness with a bitter caramel aftertaste. The bitterness disappears quickly, leaving an easy drinking beer that wasn’t as complex as I hoped but overall good.

Bottle: Pours nearly black with a short, dark tan head. Chocolate, wood, dark fruit aroma. Taste is coffee, chocolate, malt.... Earthy, minimal bittering. A very nicely done ale.

Pours a dark ruby/blackish hue with a khaki colored head. Great chocolate and dark fruit aroma. Taste is of plums and raisin. A great beer no doubt, but still leaves something to be desired.

UPDATED: NOV 3, 2013 12 ounce bottle from Beer Of The (Every Other) Month Club. Dark brown/ruby hue, medium tan head, strong malty nose with noticeable alcohol, fine firm bittersweet flavor with solid malt backbone and some fruit notes, very well balanced. I’ve heard stories of how good this beer is and was glad to finally try it. One of the very best beers I’ve ever received from a beer-by-mail/UPS club. Tasted on February 26, 2013.
