UPDATED: DEC 5, 2004 A beer that was reportedly sent to the White House at the then President Clintons request. All I can says is that is wife was a bitch and his girlfriend a slut and I think that he had better taste in women than he had for beer. Opaque and brown in color. Small off white head. Aroma of beer, malty and slightly sweet. No much of a flavor at all, only bubbles and bitterness. Dry bitter finish. Not one Id care to repeat.

Draft at VT Brewers Fest - Pours a deep copper/reddish color with an scant light tan head that does not hold up long. Aroma is slightly fruity and malty with some hop. Flavor is of both malt and bitter hops and faint smokines. Although a strong ale, alcohol is not apparent. Finish is bitter, but not long lasting. Overall an OK beer, but not outstanding..

This brew pours a darker mohogany with a silky off-white head that leaves good lacing. Aroma has a great balance of maltiness with a good hop backing. Taste starts malty and sweet and as it progresses it develops a almost leather like aftertaste. Slightly smoked flavor and a good hop presence at the end to balance out the flavor. I was very impressed with this brews smoothness, thanks for sending this one out here to oregon Dan!

Draught at Brewtopia 04 Clear, deep mahogany color. Good lacing. Malty with a slightly smoky aroma. Over this has a malty profile with a slightly bitter hop finish. Not a bad beer, but not up to an English Strong Ale IMO.

Brewtopia04. Reddish-brown, clear; fluffy head. Earthy aromas, bready. Not much to body for a strong ale. Alcohol not very prominent. Tasty but too mild, I thought, and falling short of the mark.

Sweet carmelized sugar and fruit in the aroma. Dark brown but very clear with light tan head that recedes to cover. Sherry-like and malty sweet with just a touch of bitterness to take the edge off. Medium-light body. Somewhat thin. Bottle (sampled at Mondial 2004).

Art of Beer Festival 2004: Has a dark brown color with some lacing and a malted smell. Taste is somewhat smoked malt and finishes with a moderate bitterness. Overall an ok beer, but nothing too special.

n first hearing of this brew, I was intriqued by the name and imagined it was christened in honor of the absurd and vile protoganist of Alfred Jarrys satirical, scatological works of the turn of last century. Turns out they named it after a dog, but Id like to think the dog was named after that ridiculous, surrealistic king of Poland. And hey, how about the beer? Appearance: dark eggplant color, nearing a pure violet, with a good, fuzzy, cream-colored head. Aroma:oddly uncategorizable, though I feel Ive encountered this particular nose before, I cant think of where or when. (I hear a Gershwin tune coming on.) A little nutty, a trifle fruity, but nothing like what those words would mean to your mind on their own. Ill drink deeper to divine more precise connotations...horse blanket, bog soil, wet cat, cactus juice, marmot saliva...oh, now Im making stuff up!..a bit flinty, minerally, hints of smoke and moss, utterly unique. Enough, time to taste. Little hops, big malt, but none too untoward. Medium to full body, and smooth drinking, but a bit flat, unfortunately. "Just the right amount of hops", says the label. Meaning, "none"? A little more fruit in the flavor peeks in later, in the form of raisins, dates. Too little spark to this very unusual beer, somthing I long for in an ale. Strength only asserts itself at the end, by which point Im relieved this odd little journey is over. I do wish I could try one again, to further explore its mysterious secrets.
