Bought this in bottle while at grocery store feeling too lazy to go to beer store. Place had several of my old dependables in 12-packs, but only wanted six. This beer was so not me. Malty in the extreme, skunky on the palate. I forced myself through one and will give the rest away. I think my dislike of this is largely a function of my preference for high-hopped pales and IPAs. This was like a chocolate malt with beer poured in it. Might be good to you, but not to me. User134089 (1644) - - JUL 9, 2012
Had in Blue Mountain Lake, N.Y., on July 5, 2012. Bottle into pint glass. Two fingers of head. Reddish, brown, garnet color. Foamy gray lacing with decent foamy retention.
Smelled malty, nutty, roasty, caramel, toffee and light chocolate ice cream. Reminded me slightly of a Mud Slide.
Tasted nutty malts, Mud Slide, big alcohol finish, Russian Imperial Stout like, chocolate shake.
Full body. Creamy texture. Average carbonation. Long bitter finish.
Not as good as I remember it, but still an OK beer. Heavy and rich, but worth the risk of trying it. saxo (18208) - Højbjerg, Aarhus, DENMARK - JUL 5, 2012
Tap @ The Stag’s Head. Nice head with good duration. Color is rich caramel, nuts, fruits, yeasty notes and rich hops. Dry bitter finish. czar (9009) - Québec, Quebec, CANADA - JUL 2, 2012
on tap at brewpub. clear medium dark brown with a nice off-white head, some retention, nice lacing. toasted and roasted malts, some phenols, english hops indeed - grassy and citrusy. not much of english biscuity malt character. average to soft carbonation, med to full body, nice grassy-citrusy finish with a touch of alcohol. good but not classic esa. Bottle poured a clear reddish brown with a lasting creamy tan head. Aromas of toasted malt, cocoa, earthiness and coffee. Palate was medium bodied and crisp with a smooth finish. Flavors of toasted malt, cocoa and earthiness with a smooth lingering cocoa finish.

Pours a deep brown, good start but finish is a bit tinny. Tasted at Brooklyn Waterfront Beer Festival, 6/16/2012. beerfish666 (1) - - JUN 16, 2012 does not count
Deep dark and delicious. Easy drinking despite being dark and high in alcohol. Best on draft at the Pub!! micronaut129 (241) - chalfontborotowntonbergville, Pennsylvania, USA - JUN 10, 2012
Pours brownish with ruby hig lights. It has a tall dense head leaving fine sticky lacing.
Well carbonated too.
Aroma is strong of rich malts and some molasses.
There is also a toffee sweetness too.
Taste is of complex malts with good character.
Some roasted malts come through as well as wood and leather and a finish similar to licorise.
This beer has a medium feel with a bitter and slight alcohol warming.
I was pleasently surprized with this beer. I was expecting something like an amber ale, but this style took me back a bit.

Depp garnet as promised. Definitely full of woodsy dark fruits and full malt. Very English, feels very ild world, stiff upper lip, medicine cabinet. Has the strong ale character on the tongue. Quite good in its own right. knock ya on the keel o yer boat if you spend a night with this one, it will. Beerathon (1683) - Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 5, 2012
Deep brown color with slightly tannish head with some lacing. Not much to the aroma. Nice malt backbone with some slight hops.
