UPDATED: DEC 29, 2006 Oct. 3, 2005 - 12 oz. bottle. A hearty Autumn/Winter brew. Sweet flavor is of red wine, smoke, fruit -- balanced nicely by a strong hop presence. The higher ABV is noticeable, but warms without overpowering the brew. Will be having this one again over the Winter, I’m sure. Re-rate on Dec. 29, 2006: Bumped up the aroma score from "4" to "7". This is definitely more enjoyable in a Trappist glass.

12 oz bottle. Pours a deep ruby red/brown color with a slightly off white head that settles to a film. Aroma is mostly malt, roasted malt/burnt caramel, some alcohol and a touch of hops. Taste carries some of the caramel/malt aroma with it. I get a little bit of a roasted malt taste as well. I think it could use a bit more body to it, it seems a little watery. Finish carries more of a pronounced roastedness to it.

Pours see through brown to black body with a beige head. Lots of sediment floating around. Aroma is caramel, caramelized malts, coffee and roasted malts. Taste is sweet, malty, watery, quite thin and with a little bit of caramel. Watery texture, dry mouthfeel, soft carbonation.

Dark brown with reddish/amber hues and a small tan head that quickly dissipates. Faint aroma of roasted malt. Medium bodied with good mix of chocolate and roasted malt nuttiness. Underlying hop flavors are also apparent. This one was a nice surprise.

UPDATED: OCT 29, 2014 Birra molto particolare di difficile inquadratura. Profumata e fruttata sia al naso che al palato, dopo una riveduta ne si apprezza l’equilibratura e la buona beverinità. Ottimo corpo e gusto amaro abbastanza pronunciato.

A nice browner brown ale, just enough bitterness to even it out, and a slight hint of chocolate maltiness

This had a beautifully dark red color to it, with a thick tan head. It had a hint of ginger and chocolate in both its aroma and taste.

Reddish brown color with hints of coffee and caramel and even a little bit of chocolate. it is a great after dinner beer and has a very complex palette the only problem is you don’t want to drink more then one with this ABV %!!

Bottle. Dark reddish brown with tight, attractive beige head. Aroma is earthy with caramel, peat, tobacco, and spice. Flavors of caramel, toffee, roasted nuts, tobacco, peat, toast, pine, apple, and spice. Medium body with creamy mouthfeel and light, sparkly carbonation. Impressive and inspiring.

A tasty English strong. Spicy on the palate the beer was smooth throughout the drink. I can see where people really dig this beer.
