Opaque chocolate brown. Light brown head. Malty, nutty aroma w/ light alcohol. Body is a little on the light side of medium, perhaps over-carbonated. Nutty, caramel flavour w/ some chocolate & roastiness & a decently bitter, lightly alcoholic finish. vwsteggie (684) - Paxton, Massachusetts, USA - MAY 11, 2004
Art of Beer Festival 2004: Has a dark brown color with some lacing and a malted smell. Taste is somewhat smoked malt and finishes with a moderate bitterness. Overall an ok beer, but nothing too special. Gorbalev (3000) - Ontario, CANADA - SEP 20, 2004
Buffalo Brewfest 04. Dark brown pour, hops and malt in aroma. Taste was creamy at first with a decent malt body and noticeable, but hardly overwhelming hops - a sweet taste. Had no idea it was 7%. Good beer. jimhilt (2620) - Bow, New Hampshire, USA - DEC 7, 2004
Pours with a five+ finger light tan head that fades slowly leaving a good lace. Cloudy amber color. Light carbonation. Nose is faintly malty. Medium bodied. Starts and finishes with a balance of malt and hops, the high ABV is not noticable. $1.85 for a 12oz bottle from Hoosick Street Discount Bev. Troy, NY.

Almost cola colored beer with a sticky, rocky beige beer. Malty sweet nose with rome roasted grains. Sweet beer with white sugar and some caramel. A little tea and some toasted bread and roasted malt notes. BillKismet (4103) - Seattle, Washington, USA - MAR 19, 2012
Thick mahogany body with a thin toasted caramel colored head. Nut caramel and toffee malting oozes off the body, soon leading to flavors of sharp brown malt, caramel nut, and some alcohol. dextermorgan (99) - New York, New York, USA - JUN 19, 2012
Pours a deep brown, good start but finish is a bit tinny. Tasted at Brooklyn Waterfront Beer Festival, 6/16/2012. czar (9322) - Québec, Quebec, CANADA - JUL 2, 2012
on tap at brewpub. clear medium dark brown with a nice off-white head, some retention, nice lacing. toasted and roasted malts, some phenols, english hops indeed - grassy and citrusy. not much of english biscuity malt character. average to soft carbonation, med to full body, nice grassy-citrusy finish with a touch of alcohol. good but not classic esa.
