Our interpretation of the American red ale style. Unlike most other examples of the style, ours is a dark, robust red from the use of 5 different malts. A blend of 3 different hops from 4 additions gives our Mesabi Red a full hop character.

An American red style ale that is pretty dark in color. Mesabi Red has a full hop character to it. Overall, I think its a good beer.

Thanks Gary. This was poured into a nonic pint glass. The appearance was a ruddy burnt amber color with a sly transparency about it. Slight carbonation could be seen rising to fill a one finger white head that dissipated immediately. Stringy sticky lacing. The nose takes on rustic crisp nutty malts. Low amount of toffee, caramel and toast aromas. Light grassiness and some earthy in the balance of the hops. The flavor takes the malts sweetly to run into the aftertaste and finish. Its quite smooth in the entire flavor department. On the body, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a nice smooth sessionable feel rolling about. Moderate carbonation. Overall, did I have an old bottle? I dont see any dates anywhere, but theres nothing remotely robust about this. However, if I did, theres nothing off or skunked about it, hard to say, but perhaps I may have round an amber ale that ages nicely.

Bottle poured a clear reddish amber with a small lingering amber head. Aromas of caramel, fruitiness and light earthiness. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of caramel and light earthiness with a smooth lingering caramel finish.

12 oz bottle poured into sensory glass. Pours a dark red color, with a medium sized tan head which dissipates into a thin layer that sticks around with a bit of lacing left behind. Smell is very heavy on sweet malt, syrup, molasses, dark fruit, and hops. Taste is rich with sweet malts up front, more dry bready in the middle, and finishes with some hop bitterness. Well balanced. Mouthfeel is smooth, creamy, and medium bodied. Overall, a nice red ale. Not my favorite style, but this is a good one.

Pours a very nice dark amber. Aroma is malt heavy, caramel and just a hint of hops. Taste is more malty caramel, sugar, lightly bitter. A hint of stale hops as well. No date, so no way to know if thats intended or not.

Pours red. Hoppy smell. Fruity hop taste. Very little malt. Not a bad little beer.

UPDATED: SEP 23, 2013 Labelled as Fitgers Red. Dark hazy ruby red with a thin transparent head. Nose is mainly caramel, floral hops, hints of chocolate, barley and oatmeal. Flavor is caramel, floral & minor resin hops, nuts and chocolate. Body is fairly light is the carbonation is rather mild; Easy Drinker. Decent Red Ale but its not Fitgers quality sadly.

The bottle I had was labeled Fitgers Red. Not a particularly memorable beer. It poured a darkish red-brown, with small head. Aromas of malt and grain. Flavor was a bit off--maybe I got a bad batch?--but it tasted largely of cardboard and wood. Very unpleasant.

Bottle @ Gregs house picked up in the Midwest. Pours a slightly murky reddish brown appearance with a light brown head. Nutty, a bit fruity, mild caramel, sort of strange aroma. Somewhat bitter, herbal, leafy, toasty caramel, nutty flavor. Kind of weird.
