Bottle thanks to Bobby. Homebrew day. Pours black brown head. Nose/taste of cocoa nib, dark cherry, roast chocolate, milk chocolate and tar/molasses/sap. Medium body. Ratman197 (14822) - Arvada, Colorado, USA - AUG 5, 2013
Bottle poured a clear dark reddish brown nearly black with a small lingering brown head. Aromas of dark chocolate, coffee, roasted malt and dark fruit. Palate was medium to full bodied and smooth. Flavors of roasted malt, dark chocolate and light fruittiness with a smooth lingering chocolate finish. Lubiere (13898) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - JAN 26, 2013
A deep dark stout with a thin brown head. In aroma, grassy chocolate malt with light dark fruits. In mouth, a smooth sweet chocolate with vanilla, grassy hops, sustained bitterness, loads of alcohol warmth, nice. On tap at Istmus Beer and Cheese Fest, Jan 19 2012. crossovert (12874) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - FEB 23, 2013
This is awesome, definitely like a vanilla/cherry/cocoa dessert but not too sweet. deyholla (11597) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - JUN 8, 2013
Bottle thanks to a trade! Pours black with a dark brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a lot of bitter dark grains with coffee and a touch of tobacco. Flavor is similarly bitter with roasted malts, coffee and bitter chocolate with a hint of sweet dark grains underlying.

Bottle... This beer rocks!… Hazy dark-brown pour that sits black in my glass with a small, creamy, rust-colored head. Smells like a brownie - heaps of dark chocolate and toasted nuts, along with a subtle blueberry component. Full-bodied and mega-velvety with airy carbonation. The bittersweet flavor is a marriage of charcoal and ash accompanied by plenty of fudge. Near-perfect balance. Finishes lightly sweet, chocolaty and a just a hint boozy. If memory serves - and it usually doesn’t - this is by far the best offering I’ve ever tried from Lakefront! Bottle courtesy of FlandersNed! BVery (10485) - Plymouth, Minnesota, USA - APR 7, 2013
Bottle. I’m digging this. Very dark dense looking pour. Rich and roasty, mocha, licorice, slight cherry sweetness. Medium-dense palate. Very nice! DuffMan (10421) - the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, CANADA - MAR 20, 2014
Bottle. Oily near-black pour with a slow-to-form finely bubbled brown head. Aroma is very fudgey, chocolate liqueur, subtle coffee. Flavour is rich cocoa without being cloying or fake, some subtle vanilla sweetness, finishing with a distinct capsicum note. This greenpepper finish did not ease off, and if anything became more apparent as the beer went down. No hint of the cherries anywhere-- but I didn’t care, as this beer sat very well with me just the way it was. Best offering from Lakefront? Yep, I think for me it is! Even after having visited the brewery. Sledutah (7526) - Utah, USA - MAR 27, 2013
12oz bottle thanks to demmbonz Ughsmash (7508) - Pewaukee, Wisconsin, USA - DEC 29, 2012
Appearance: Black with a small tan head and some lacing
Aroma: Roasted malts, roast coffee, vanilla and coconut
Taste: Vanilla, roasted coffee, chocolate with a mild bitterness in the finish
On tap at Braise. Poured black with a short-lived, dark brown head. The aroma picked up roasty, fairly generic black malts and cocoa with tangy berry and fresh earthy accents.. tart cherries and warm malts on the back of the nose. The flavor found tart cherries and barrel upfront, with toasty, lightly-smoked black malt, cocoa, and lesser coffee behind.. bright cherry skins and dry-roasted malt on the long finish. Medium-plus bodied with low-ish carbonation on the palate.. very dry and roasty.. good overall, but not great.
