Clear dark ruby brown with a medium diminishing light brown head. Aroma of nuts, caramel, cherry, toast, red apple, herbs, and drip coffee. Medium watery body with a moderate amount of carbonation. Flavor of nuts, plum, black cherry, red apple, toast, milk chocolate, drip coffee and a hint of spice. Very good. BeerLimey (2154) - California, USA - JUL 31, 2004
Dark reddish brown appearance, decent head formation. Dark bready, malty, coffee aroma. Rich malty full flavored palate, cocoa, coffee roast, a touch of tea, roasted and nutty in the finish with a mild bitterness. Not too heavy on the palate but packed with flavor. jaymobrown (1845) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JUL 30, 2004
Bottle. Nicely malted beer. Mostly a gritty chewy malt. No coffee, or chocolate flavors that I could find. Nicely done beer. SledgeJr (3577) - Omaha, Nebraska, USA - JUL 28, 2004
UPDATED: MAY 2, 2005 In the bottle at the 2004 Crescent Moon Vintage Beer Tasting. Dark brown in color. Burned flavor. Dark tan head. Light in body and mouth feel. I’m not too impressed with this one. Maybe it underwhelms me because it did not age well over the last decade.
RE-RATE: Just tried a bottle made in November 2004. Guess what? Not much better! Zero head and a dominant sour taste. mdi (573) - Nebraska, USA - JUL 25, 2004
12oz bottle BD Mar wk1(hopefully 2004!) Pours like a brown soda but the foamy head dies. Nose is dark malts like munich & chocolate...medium bodied smooth, sweet...I think its well put together, its just too sweet. No hop character detected, some bitterness woulda been nice at least.

Bottle from Kevin42. Pour is nice, but taste is lacking. It’s not bad, just a little dirty. Too grapey, too carbonated. Like flat Dr. Pepper. Not bad, but not good by any stretch of the imagination. robertsreality (2460) - Minnesota, USA - JUN 14, 2004
Dark Brown Coloring. Smelled like coffee...Roasts. Tasted Chocolate...coffee... I still prefer Java Stout...but not a bad one. Kevin (2199) - Montana, USA - MAY 31, 2004
on tap. fruity aroma, very little head. nice mahogany brown color, solid, consistent taste. slight caramel or toffee flavor, i’m not sure which. delicious slightly burnt taste 5000 (6862) - Hardened Liver, Washington, USA - MAY 27, 2004
Bottle pours black cherry with brownish hues, small milkish white head, with attractive lacing.   Heavy aroma of roasted grains and malts.   Up front I get a malty taste, slowly meandering on over to the roasted side with a grassy/grainy touch.   Slight milk sugar and coffee flavor on the finish.   Smooth on the palate, decent body, enjoyable...   Slight grain and hop tinge on the aftertaste.   Thanks goes out to DavidP for the trade! Dark brown color, small off white head that faded quickly leaving little behind. The aroma was roasty and coffee with maybe a bit of caramel in there as well, but i might be reaching on that one.The taste was pretty decent, roasty and coffee againa slight hint of caramel and fairly decent hop presence that manages to balance out fairly well.Another good brew from Jcapriotti
