On tap @ Lakefront. Dark brown with a light tan head. Aroma is full of fresh hops, citrus and floral, light coffee and burnt malt. Fairly bitter hop and roast with some medium malt sweetness. Medium body with average carbonation. Nice black IPA, not overly roasty or coffee and really fresh and hoppy. wxman (1865) - O’Fallon, Illinois, USA - NOV 7, 2011
Pours a dark, nearly opaque, cola color with a robust light tan head. Aroma is pine cones and dark malt. Smooth bitter dark chocolate flavor with notes of grapefruit and freshly ground coffee. In spite of the cascade hop presence, i think the bitterness is primarily from the dark roasted malts. A fine effort! cubs (10740) - Fort Collins, Colorado, USA - SEP 25, 2011
Bottle @ home. Black appearance with a big, carbonated, brown head. Piney, bushy hoppy, lightly bitter, roasty dark malty aroma. Mild roasty, slightly burnt malty, piney, a little bitter, mild grapefruit, hoppy flavor with more resin and piney finish. Overall a pretty solid Black IPA. Pours a deep black with a pleasant aroma of lightly roasted grapefruit and slightly charred orange rind. Flavor is grapefruit coffe with a finish of piny nuts. Slippery and oily on the palate. Tasty brew.
It pours a dark brown with a fluffy off-white/tan head that leaves a lot of lacing.
Smell is hoppy and chocoaltey. The hops are real good.
The flavor is a bit lacking. It wants to be hoppy and roasty and malty at the same time but it is an off-balance.
The mouthfeel is a bit thin.

(22oz bomber) clear medium red with thick soapy tan head. Nose of chocolate malt, citrus, chocolate cracker and pineapple. Taste of chocolate malt, orange, well balanced in general and a creamy linger. p1meatloaf (256) - Corvallis, Oregon, USA - SEP 3, 2011
Bought bomber in denver and opened in San Diego into pint glass. Looks quite black. nice off brown head. smells of darkness and pine. Tastes at first of a round thick dark maltness followed closely by some hop flavor and a bit of bitterness. Malt is a bit stronger on the balance for this bottle but none the less still a quite tasty beer that i want another of if i could find it in SD. overall 7.5 of 10. SSSteve (4006) - - AUG 26, 2011
22oz bottle. pours a deep brown, almost black, with a large, foamy tan head. nose has a good mix of floral and juicy citrus hops coming through. no real darkness in the aroma. the flavor is still hoppy for the most part. i get some chalky cocoa notes and an odd funky tone deep in there somewhere towards the finish. it’s not as "dark" flavored as the appearance would lead you to believe. really nice floral notes. overall, it drank perty good. Black pour with a brown head. Nice hoppy aroma of citrus. Taste is roasted malt and hops. Low carbonation, ok taste. Leaves a pleasant aftertaste. michael-pollack (4959) - King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, USA - AUG 22, 2011
22oz. Bottle: Aroma of malt, hops, pine, resin, slight citrus, fresh-cut hops, light grapefruit, and a little roasting. Poured brown/ruby in color with a huge, creamy, dense, rocky, tan head that diminished but lasted throughout. Cloudy. Sparkling. Full of small particles throughout. Excellent lacing. Flavor is medium sweet and medium bitter. Tastes of malt, hops, pine, light roasting, light caramel, and citrus. Thin, tingly, then dry texture. Average carbonation. Malt, hop, pine, resin, roast finish is dry.
