On tap at BeerDeLuxe. Well balanced. Aromas of nuts, coffee, hints of liquorice. Taste is sweet and bitter, with long length. Velvety, and medium bodied. Black, with a frothy head. UkrainPubCrawler (121) - Minnesota, USA - MAY 3, 2014

Bottle. Almost completely black, beige head, nice lacing. Aroma of fresh pine and coffee. Taste is pine needles covered with dark chocolate and dipped in espresso. Tasty.

Poured from bottle into a pint glass. Deep brown color with a slight creamy white head and good lacing. Tastes hoppy, but not too overbearing. Great hints of coffee, and caramel with an enjoyable finish. Good seasonal IPA from Lakefront, this one did not disappoint. CanIHave4Beers (4207) - Pouring Bus, Iowa, USA - MAR 1, 2011
Pours a dark brown almost black with a big khaki head and lots of lace. The aroma is loaded with fruity hops and sweet floral notes. Blindfolded I would have no inclination leading me to believe that this was a Black IPA, in fact the aroma reminds me quite a bit of Two Hearted ale, pungent and delicious smelling with that floral on melon rind thing.
The flavor is not surprisingly focused around fruity melon and citrus hoppiness with a fair amount of bitterness which is well balanced with hop flavor. Again there is nothing in the flavor that necessarily leads one to think this is "black" it obviously is in color so the palate looks for things like toast and black currant (which it finds) but I’m not sure blindfolded that I would pick up on these subtleties. As the beer warms a bit of unpleasant alcohol flavor shows up, but it’s not really a huge distraction. This is a refreshing, delicious, dry, and fairly well balanced beer.
Possibly the best beer I’ve had of this style? I’ve yet to try very many of them I suppose but this is damn nice.

Bottle. Dark brown pour, plently of carbonation and a great strong hoppy IPA aroma. Flavor starts off with creamy roasted malts, a little chocolate and finishes with a nice pine hop bite. I’m still on the fence about most black IPA’s, but this is solid(especially for the price.) brewblackhole (1588) - Muskego, Wisconsin, USA - APR 8, 2011
Aroma is a growing pine tree, which after a couple of seconds, reveals a little dark malting underneath, the chocolate cupcake batter, the scents banter around a little, very appealing, flavor is predominately roasted malt, with a swash of hop bitterness in the background,a little bit of that pinefor flavor,a little on the lighter side, but has all the elements and complexites you look for in this new style. Wish I didnt have to search so hard for the flavors, but this is not an imperial style, better then the first bottle I had chinchill (5226) - South Carolina, USA - OCT 14, 2012
UPDATED: MAR 10, 2014 near black color with ruby-orange highlights; clear; Very smooth, medium body. Durable tan foam leaves exceptional lacing. Result is exactly as planned: a well-crafted IPA with a well-proportioned addition of dark roasted malts. Plenty of hoppiness remains, especially in the aroma.
