Pours a dark chestnut brown color with a half finger off-white head that immediately fades into a thin ring. Cloudy and muddy looking with poor head retention and very minimal lacing.
Earthy, mineral-like aroma with a very weak malt presence countered by grassy hop notes. Dirty, soily hops along with some faint smoke and sweet caramel malt. Smells like a dirty, slightly hoppy beer with some cola mixed in.
Medium bodied with tight carbonation and a surprisingly heavy spice presence that lingers over the slightly smokey malt presence and earthy hops into a bone dry finish. Dry and peppery with hints of charcoal, ashtray and smoked meat followed by slightly sweet caramel malt and an aggressively dry and bitter hop character. Just a strange combination of harsh flavors that make this beer tough to drink. The hop profile is too one dimensional for my preference and the burnt, smoked malts are overdone, giving off an unpleasant acrid character. Bottle. Dark amber with reddish-orange highlights and a dense tan head. Lots of sweet malts here, burnt sugars, sponge toffee, with just a kiss of smoke that I could detect early on, but became lost in the sweet malt bomb. Not overly complex, but tasty enough. arminjewell (9669) - East Lansing, Michigan, USA - JAN 1, 2014
Pour out of 22 oz bottle, dark reddish brown pour with off white head, aroma brought notes of vanilla, oak, wood, some slight smoke into dark caramel, toffee, slight dark fruit, pretty nice. Taste is a mix of dark fruit, nuts, toffee, caramel, into some vanilla, woody notes, finishing slightly smoky, sweet. The age did well with this. nuplastikk (6289) - Madison, Wisconsin, USA - JUN 2, 2013
Tap at Sugar Maple. Deep garnet-burgundy body. Thin steady beige head. Pretty bland and unimpressive, though not offensive or off either. Very tame and malt centered, mild warming in the creamy finish. Pretty boring, worth a tick I suppose. PorterPounder (7970) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - MAR 27, 2013
Orlando, Fl - Whole Foods - 22 oz bomber. Dark copper pour, light off white head. Aroma of bubble gum, a hint of smoke, some Christmas spices. Flavor is full bodied and belly warming. Smoky undertones permeate throughout, some caramel and toffee sweetness, some horehound candy, a hint of Christmas spices. Thick and sticky mouthfeel. Good companion to a cold night at the last grasp of winter.

Bottle shared by alexsdad06 (Brad). Poured clear dark copper brown color with an average off-white frothy head that diminished slowly with good lacing. Good complex sweet malt aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Good well balanced sweet malt flavor with a good sweet malt finish of moderate duration. Good complex brew. alexsdad06 (10430) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - FEB 2, 2013
22 oz. bottle from Binny’s SL. Pours a deep reddish amber brown color with a medium sized fine beige head. The aroma is sweet caramel/toffee malts, lightly toasted, sticky fruits, a very mild smoky peat with a light hop presence. The flavor is more sweet caramel/toffee, fruits, very light smoke with a mild earthy hop note. Thin with a softer finish. I am pretty sure it is required by law to drink any beer that shares your name. b3shine (8874) - Indiana, USA - JAN 31, 2013
22 oz bottle to snifter (thanks alexsdad06). Looks solid; a cloudy amberish-brown with light beige lacing. Smells of sweet malt, caramel, and some dark fruit. Tastes like it smells with an average mouthfeel. Decent beer. Ibrew2or3 (8614) - Tempe, Arizona, USA - JAN 9, 2013
Bonus beer from Atom. It pours clear copper with a tan head of foam. The aroma offers up molasses, prunes and a bit of earthy date fruitinesss. The smooth taste comes across similar to the nose with a mix of molasses covered prunes and earthy dates as well as some malty sweetness. This is smooth tasty stuff. hopscotch (11101) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - JAN 4, 2013
Bottle... Clear dark-caramel ale with flashes of burnt-orange when held up to light and a small, creamy, lightly-tanned head. Great retention. The toasty, biscuity nose presents subdued notes of minerals and hints of herbal roots. Medium-bodied with kicking carbonation. Well-balanced, toasty, light-caramel flavor. Finishes crisp and minerally with a caramelized toffee farewell. Bottle courtesy of KickInChalice!
