UPDATED: AUG 1, 2015 Smells of raisin, fig, dark fruits, booze - almost like a Belgian beer but the hops at the end take it in a different direction. Pours a beautiful reddish brown color with a tan head that leaves a ton of lacing. Tastes like sweet malt and dark fruit followed by moderate hops and an alcohol warmth. Like a lot of other barleywines I have tried, only bigger. Some reviewers may not like how boozy this beer tastes, but if you’re buying 12.5%, you shouldn’t hate alcohol so much. Palate is slick and full; each taste stays with you for a while. Highly recommend this one. It was $5.49 at Friar Tuck, I bought one for now and one for the cellar.
Trying a bottle that’s over 2 years old. This beer ages well. Smells and looks the same. Palate is the same if not even more syrupy. The hops are a bit muted; surprisingly the booze burn is still there. pdx77 (1484) - Oregon, USA - JUL 23, 2014
On draught at 27th Annual Oregon Brewers Festival. Plum amber color. Aroma is molasses, bourbon, caramel, and taffy. Taste is molasses, plum, bourbon, caramel, and citrus. Syrupy mouthfeel, with a sweet molasses finish. Cory (372) - , California, USA - JUL 1, 2014
2013 Bottle #004. Aroma is caramel, sweet, light hope notes, lots of sweet malted grain notes. Full body, long sweet finish, with some carob flavor notes as it warms up. Delicious version of a barley wine. BVery (11240) - Plymouth, Minnesota, USA - MAR 22, 2014
Bomber. Reddish pour. Soapy head. Caramel, bready, boozy, pretty nice. Easy drinker and tasty. thegreenrooster (4518) - St.louis, Missouri, USA - FEB 8, 2014
Pour is a murky brown with a very small tan head. Aroma is brown sugar, toffee, dark fruit and alcohol. Flavor is caramel, toffee, sweet malt and even some wood smoke. Mouthfeel is super thick and heavy but that only helps sipping this powerful beer. Alcohol is there but not in a big way. Finish is brown sugar and plum. This was a very nice barley wine. Full of flavor, very thick and warming.
