UPDATED: MAY 7, 2012 A ’light’ tasting stout. Very good flavor but not a ton of depth. A easy drinking stout. delicious ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone Onenote81 (1002) - Winston-Salem, North Carolina, USA - APR 25, 2012
Originally reviewed: 4/1/10. Poured into a pint glass. Had with lunch today. This pours a very thick black. No light comes through the murkiness at all. A small tan head caps it off, and leaves light lace after each sip. Scents of milk chocolate, roasted malts, and dark breads. Not bad.
The body is a little thin for the style. Carbonation level is moderate. I’d like a bit more "chew" to this. This has great flavor though! Nice bittersweet chocolate, a little char in the middle, and finishes dry and slightly tart. I for one, really enjoyed this one. Bif (2245) - St. Charles, Missouri, USA - APR 17, 2012
Bottle- Pours a black color with a decent tan head that fades slowly to good lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, caramel sweetness with a bit of chocolate. Taste is similar to the aroma with caramel sweetness, bit of chocolate and roasted malt. There is a mild bitterness and a dry finish. Fairly medium body, smooth and somewhat creamy. Not a bad stout. Goes down pretty easy. jjacobs445 (7) - Rolla, Missouri, USA - APR 8, 2012 does not count
Smells mildly like bread and coffee. Extremely dark brown color, almost black. Totally opaque. Average head with brown foam and little lacing. Tastes like coffee, strong and bitter. There are sour notes as well. Medium body, thick and creamy. An interesting looking beer. Taste is strong but not overpowering, and it finishes well. dbarnold (1127) - Bethesda, Maryland, USA - APR 5, 2012
Didn’t do anything for me, smells nice, with lots of hops and tons of roast. And that’s where it ends, body is super thin, with nothing going on. I like stouts to have some balls, and this one does not.

Coffee and chocolate nose. Thin fast disappearing head. Classic stout color. Caramel chocolate and roast malt. Mild coffee aftertaste. Light body. Dry finish. BVery (10510) - Plymouth, Minnesota, USA - MAR 27, 2012
UPDATED: JAN 1, 2014 Bottle. Very dark pour with a nice tan head - good looking beer. Good aroma of roasted malts and coffee. Palate is a bit thin. Taste has roasty elements, but seems a bit on the bland side. Decent brew - easy drinking. Not terribly exciting. dionysus (1486) - Portland, Oregon, USA - MAR 26, 2012
On tap @ Lakefront Brewery. Pour is dark brown/black with a khaki head. Aroma shows roasted malt, coffee, cocoa, and a touch of nuts. Flavor shows the same with emphasis on the roast. Overall body is lighter than expected and the finish is dry with a good amount of roasted bitterness. Much better on tap than in the bottle. hopasaurus_rex (109) - Surprise, Arizona, USA - MAR 25, 2012
Pours a pitch black with a tan head. Aromas of roasted malt, cream, metallic and cardboard. Initial flavor is smooth, slightly roasted, slightly bitter. Flavors of stale coffee, and burntness. A slight tart/sour note. Mouthfeel is bland and very thin. Not what I was expecting. Disappointing. HighlanderOne (1330) - York, SC via NJ, South Carolina, USA - MAR 17, 2012
Poured from bottle. I’m on a st patricks day kick today Aroma of coffee, toffee, cocoa, roasted nut. Solid black, light tan head. I get the same coffee and toffee flavors, along with chalk and a tiny bit of cocoa. Slightly sour aftertaste. Oily, watery feel - more like a porter. OK, but nothing special here.
