I really wanted to like this, but was a weak and bland beer. Very faint hops (increase by a factor of 10, lads) and plain taste. Compares to a Boundary Road or Monteiths beer. Struggles to be a session PA explosivedog (1403) - Auckland, NEW ZEALAND - SEP 26, 2016
330ml bottle. Aroma is grass, pine, pepper and a little tropical fruit. Flavour is some grass, pepper, and some tropical fruit in the finish. There’s also a lingering savouriness. It’s got a nice full mouthfeel, and it’s really quite drinkable, but there’s definitely space to improve. Hoponmate (309) - NEW ZEALAND - JUL 4, 2016
A fantasticly refreshing beer. Tons of jops lead to a clear crisp finish. New zealand beer balanced beautifully. As refreshing as lake Taupo itself Skarecrow (830) - North Shore, Auckland, NEW ZEALAND - JUN 23, 2016
Poured hazy amber brown with reasonable head.
Good bitterness with smooth hoppy grassy finish.
Not bad. simonw (4) - - MAY 1, 2016 does not count
The packaging is great, and it’s pricing indicates it should be a quality beer... however this is a big disappointment. There are better NZ made pale ales available for nearly half the price, and an array of excellent higher quality pale ales in the same price bracket.
Pours an almost amber colour, the smell is faint and not very appetizing and the taste is even worse. Taste is dry and earthy, with a short bitterness to finish. There is something unpleasant about the taste; almost like someone took a dull but okay beer, and poured detergent into it instead of some more hops. The mouthfeel is unpleasant, almost no head, and watery with a weird astringent fizz.
Pretty annoyed that I got a six pack based on the packaging, as I’m struggling to get through a bottle. I will not be purchasing again.

Bottle. Pours a dark orange colour with a thin white head, plenty of fruit in the aroma, taste is bitter and fruity with a dry fruit finished. Jimthechap (2064) - Christchurch, NEW ZEALAND - MAR 3, 2015
It seems I got a bottle from the same batch as my esteemed colleague PDubya as the first appearance of this beer is that it is as flat as buggery. A lovely orange amber colour with perfect clarity though but no head to speak of. Aromas tend toward orange rind, dry red bark and dehydrated apricots. It isn’t as forthright as the Hairy Hop IPA, but has its charms. Carbonation comes out in tasting with quite a zesty spritziness that really showcases the ripe citrus characters of oranges, tangerine and kumquat. This is a tangy beer with an enchanting finish. Once the head retention is sorted this beer will charm legions. Pdubyah (759) - Auckland, NEW ZEALAND - JAN 31, 2015
UPDATED: MAR 1, 2015 I had a bottle that was flat, but I could discern that it has potential to be something nice, I’ll re-rate if I get another bottle..... Which I did, and the result is a clean crisp beer with a lovely over-arching grassiness, with a decent bitter zing. Lovely carbonation and a decent finish. Not a lot of linger though, making this easy drinking and a great way to spend a sunny afternoon.
