COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Is there a better fall treat than pumpkin pie? Nope, which is why there are so many pumpkin beers out there. It’s also why ours is based on the dessert, not the gourd. Our twist: Punkel has no pumpkin. It’s a dark, malty German lager but with a lighter body enhanced by cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg, and ginger. Because who doesn’t like a little trick with their treat?

Clear mahogany pour with a lasting cream head and nice lacing. Nose is pumpkin pie spice, bread, and toffee. Taste is nutty, pumpkin pie spice, and toast. Light body. Easy drinker. Good for our 80 degree Texas fall days.

Pours dark mahogany with a medium sized beige head. Smells malty and full of fall flavored spices. Taste is malty sweetness with some spice. Medium-bodied with a wet texture and mild mouth-carbonation, Lakewood Punkel finishes with a sweet spiciness.

Not a bad little pumpkin beer here. Good flavors. Needs more body and head retention though. Palate is thin and zero lacing on the glass.

Tap at Common Table, Dallas Tx, I wrote down, pretty boring as my description and sure enough thats all this was, a one note malt heavy beer, lacking in the notice that it was indeed a pumpkin beer.

On tap at the brewery.
Deep amber pour, slight head. Aroma is full of spices - pumpkin, cinnamon, nutmeg. Sweet malt flavors and more spices but doesn’t live up to the nose. Decent but I’m glad they are trying unique brews.
