Lager in the Smoked Baltic Porter style. Impenetrable. Black in colour. On the nose, this extreme version of the Ghisa features toasting, coffee grounds, smoking, bitter cocoa and toffee notes, and a winy alcoholic component which accompanies the fragrance of alcohol soaked redberries.
In the mouth, it’s full bodied and corresponds to the sensations felt in the nose.
Meditative warming beer, the alcoholic impact is not as violent as expected.

Having a high alcohol content of 8.5% Vol. and the intense smoke aroma, this beer, from legendary Ghisa family, has brought fame to our Brewery. Today in Milan "El Ghisa" is a friendly way the citizens still call traffic officers; most probably because of old black uniforms worn by the officers that reminded of the colour of cast iron fountains. Besides, their top hats popular around the year 1860 looked like cast iron tubes of some German stoves traded in Milan at that time. 20°

Had on cask. Pours a dark black with ran bubbly head. A very strong smoky aroma. Taste is meaty and smoky with malts and coffee. That smoky meat taste definitely lingers.

Black, thick head. Smoky, coffee, smoked ham, Schwarzbrot. Smoked, harmonically bitter, stays quite a time on the palate.

Pours black with nice head, leaving a nice lacing. Aroma: elegant smoke aroma coupled with dried plum and roastiness. Taste: very well balanced with roastiness, some smoke, a touch of bitterness and a hoppy palate. Medium carbonation. Elegant and well balanced beer. Very drinkable, also because the ABV is very well hidden. This is an American-styled super drinkable porter rather than an imperial porter heavyweight. Still very good.

Marrone scuro, schiuma marroncina molto persistente.

W smaku kawa i wyczuwana lukrecja. Piwo pełne, niskowysycone. Dość pijalne. Goryczka zalegająca.

Bottle @ Warsaw Beer Festival. Pours black, off-white head. Aroma of chocolate, dark fruit, some hints of smokiness. In taste it’s nicely balanced, with evident porter-ish sweetness. Very drinkable, but could be a bit more smoky.

Sissio (1643) - Orsenigo, ITALY - APR 25, 2015
Clear black, almost no chocolate head. Complex aroma. Roasted notes, milk chocolate, cream, toffee, riped fruit, nuts, blueberries. Rich dry taste with burnt wiod, smoky notes, cocoa bean, passito.

Baltic Porter che sinceramente non mi è sembrata un gran che. Presenta pochi sapori (tra i quali sentori di vernice), e tende decisamente all’amaro, ma un amaro che stride. Interessante, ma sicuramente sopravvalutata.
