Appealing, creamy, really creamy head. Aroma of alcohol, sugar and roasted barley. Amazing coffee and roasty flavors with some bitterness, maybe some alcohol too. Very creamy mouthfeel. The best beer of this pub. tiggmtl (4545) - East York, Ontario, CANADA - MAY 10, 2004
UPDATED: MAR 17, 2005 Original Rating 5/10/2004 - 6-5-8-5-17=4.1): Subdued aromas of coffee and chocolate - as advertised but quite enticing. Opaque brown, almost black with dense brown head that lasts forever and you just know that’s going to coat the glass. Coffee, chocolate, a hint of alcohol, mild fruitiness with enough roasty bitterness to keep it interesting. Full-bodied, creamy, smooth mouthfeel. Liquid velvet. On tap at the brewpub.PrimeMinister (138) - Quebec, CANADA - APR 29, 2004
Re-sampled (16-Mar-05 - 7-4-7-4-15=3.7): Flavours and aromas much as above though I found the aroma to be a touch more distinctive and the flavour and mouthfeel to be a bit more sweet and cloying than I remember from last year’s sampling. On tap at the brewpub.
Very creamy and soft body and head. Color is deep black. There is coffee and a bit of sweet in there. There is almost vanilla. Very complex and pleasurable to drink. Eructoblaster (4183) - Gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - APR 20, 2004

Black, medium beige head. The aroma is sweet, strawberries, some alcohol. Flavour is nicely balanced, sweet, not overly bitter, some smokey flavours. Sticky palate, rather full-bodied. Nice. Draught. beermoose (25) - Blainville, Quebec, CANADA - NOV 24, 2003
Pitch Black beer with great chocolate taste. You cannot feel or smell the alcohol. Very Very good. Rastacouere (6177) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - NOV 12, 2003
Very dark body with a tan 1-inch foam->beautiful. Aroma is not too intense, but milk coffeeish, chocolatey -> this is gonna be malty! The mouthfeel is as creamy as it gets, medium to full bodied. The taste is a fine mixture of malt and light drying hops: Brown chocolate, creamy coffee, licorice, a oatmeal character closing to St-Ambroise stout, with salty hints. Very good and easy to drink. jercraigs (10303) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - OCT 6, 2003
UPDATED: JUL 13, 2005 Re-rate RBSG 2005. Black moderate khaki head. Mild roast and muted milk chocolate in the aroma. Flavour is sweet malt with a dry mild roasty undercurrent. Creamy medium bodied palate. Less complex than my memory of it, but quite nice. Their best beer in my humble opinion. 7/4/4/6/15<P>
Original Rating October 2003. Black with a respectable tan head. Roasty coffee like aroma. Flavour is roasty, good body. 7/4/7/4/15 CapFlu (5126) - Victoria, British Columbia, CANADA - OCT 1, 2003
(Draught) Almond head and an opaque body. Coffee nose. Cocoa, whiskey and vanilla cross the palate. Delicious!
