This rich fruity ale is slightly darker and sweeter than the Traditional. Notes of summer fruits and caramel give way to a long bitter malt finish.

My Bottom Line:
This suave Bitter offers oranges over caramel in a dry mouthfeel which leads to bitter hop leaves.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A creamy head of foam covers the shiny amber.
-This is a rather classic interpretation, but it is very enjoyable.
-The finish is surprisingly dry given the initially silky body.
-Yeast fruitiness is perfectly harmonious with the chosen hop bill.

On cask at The Ypres Castle Inn, Rye.

Had a pint in Ypres Castle Inn, Rye, UK in Feb 2014. Decent head on initial pour, clear brown in colour. Nice carbonation for style. Little aroma. Watery mouth feel. Subtle malt flavours, rounded bitterness. Not bad for a best bitter. Ok.

First tasted this in Greyfriers, Perth in September 1993. Cask, handpump dispense. Clear orange amber in colour with a thin white head. Thin mouthfeel and good lacing. Pale malts give a digestive biscuit base with a sweet raisin fruit note. Dusty citric hop flavour to the short aftertaste. Finish edges towards sweet malt with tart redcurrant fruit evident. An ok session bitter.

Cask at GBBF08. Almost clear copper colour. Nicely malty and nutty flavour, seems also to have enough alcohol to give it at least some mouthfeel. Hint of spicy hops.
