3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle: Black, thin sudsy tannish head, sticky lacing. Assertive coffee nose, soft roasted malts. Coffee and roasted malts on the tongue, moderate sweetness. A touch of dark chocolate. Hard to believe this is 9%. Seems very well hidden. Body and mouthfeel are moderate. Finishes with a sweetened coffee, heavy with cream and sugar, with minor roasted malts. Pretty simple, but clean and enjoyable. Only wished it were a little more chewy.
Draft @ Red Lion GEG. Slight roast aroma. Dark opaque color with beige head, good lacing. Awesome taste! Initial coffee flavor, a bit of balanced bitterness. Creamy mouthfeel, med body. Overall, a wonderful porter tasty doesn’t taste a strong as it is! hman43 (1898) - Pinehurst, North Carolina, USA - DEC 28, 2016
It pours black with a dark brown head. There are aromas of coffee and chocolate. The flavors are highlighted by the coffee, roast, and chocolate. There is an ever so subtle hint of dark fruits. As it warms, the dark fruits take a more prominent role in the taste after the initial malt flavoring. It has a full creamy body with a rather smooth texture. It has a moderate bitterness in the finish as well. Overall, this porter is dominate with the initial malt flavors and then the dark fruits become more prominent as part of the aftertaste, especially as the beer warms. This was poured into a snifter.
The appearance was a dark brown almost black color with a thin sustaining finger’s worth of white to off white head. Damn, that head must last for a good 3 minutes. Finally, the lacing seems good, slight messiness.
The aroma, well, I think this is a bit aged, though I don’t see any dates anywhere, but this is how I currently feel about this: coffee bean - slightly acidic, dry roasty, subtle vanilla, sly milk chocolate, then some sweet dark fruits (leaning to plums/raisins, mainly).
The flavor takes all of the previously mentioned flavors to combine nicely into a subtle sweet to roasty coffee bean to dark fruitiness. Definitely moves nice and sweet in the aftertaste and slyly touching the finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a decent sessionable to sipping quality about it. Carbonation seems to have fallen off a bit, but that’s okay, as I believe this is slightly aged a bit.
Overall, its aged, so, I don’t want to be too harsh on this beer, yes, maybe not as boozy as when it was initially put out on the market. Still, this one has a ton of potential. stevoj (5878) - Boise, Idaho, USA - SEP 3, 2016
Bottle from Boise Co-op. Inky black pour with small beige head. Light, mellow coffee aroma. Taste brings more of the coffee bitterness, faint chocolate notes, burnt toast and roast malts. Imperial-ness not too evident, fairly smooth Porter. More coffee bitterness at the finish. SlovakSniper (5561) - Candiac, Quebec, CANADA - AUG 5, 2016

A very nice coffee porter. Pours a deep brown-black with a brown head. Smells great, coffee and vanilla. Taste is vanilla to start, with a bit of bitter coffee in the finish. Had in the bottle. alexsdad06 (11235) - West Chester, Ohio, USA - FEB 20, 2016
22 oz bottle shared by Amy. Pours dark brown to black in color with a small beige head. The aroma and flavor have big dark roasted coffee, dark chocolate, earthy bitterness, perhaps a touch thin for the big roasted coffee character, but tasty, I get a hint of dark berries, but mostly coffee. I have had this before and didn’t rate it so I was happy to have it again. drsordr (2927) - Loveland, Ohio, USA - FEB 17, 2016
Bottle shared by Amy pour opaque dark brown with thin tan head. Nose big coffee, chocolate and malt but mostly coffee. Taste dark roast coffee, dark fruit, and some milk chocolate but mostly coffee. I like coffee.
