3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
This is an excellent beer, from the first sip to the last. I can’t believe the price point or the taste. I’m not sure of the ESB thing, but it has a light, crisp tang and is quite dry. Excellent. I’ve rated a good number of beers and this one is high on the list of surprises.
This was poured into an English pint glass.
The appearance was a ruddy burnt orange almost copper color with a finger’s worth of light foamy white head. Some lace, but sliding and messy.
The aroma had some biscuits, toast, sweet grain, butterscotch, caramel/toffee malts, earthy to grassy hops and a touch of dried leaves.
The flavor was malty sweet like many ESB’s I have tried. Expected earthy hop to smooth malty crispness in the aftertaste. Finish was crisp and malty.
The palate was roughly medium bodied with a decent sessionability about it. Carbonation felt good as best as a bottled ESB can be. ABV felt as projected.
Overall, I’d say this was a pretty good ESB worthy of having again if I could get it. Pass the fish n’ chips, Frank! TizzleJizzle (792) - Garland, Texas, USA - JAN 12, 2017
22 oz bottle. Poured a copper color with a frothy beige head. Taste of sweet malts, caramel and toffee. A little over carbonated, medium body. Excellent ESB! slowrunner77 (12591) - Reno, Nevada, USA - AUG 22, 2016
A surprisingly on the money wan from a hit n miss Brewer. Copper color. Head sticks around. Aroma of nuts and caramel, slight earth and pine. A little toffee pine and earthy hops on the tongue. Smooth and easy. alexsdad06 (10641) - West Chester, Ohio, USA - AUG 5, 2016
22 oz bottle from notes. Pours a hazy amber/copper color with a small off white head. The aroma and flavor have toasted malts, caramel, nutty, some earthy notes, light floral character, decent. wombat23 (1665) - Texas, USA - MAY 13, 2016
Shared 22 oz. bottle. As Laughing Dog CSB. Hah. Thought the CSB would stand for something similar to ESB. Not quite! Pour is hazy amber, with a thick beige head. Aroma is malty and bready. Taste is malty, bready, cloying, and sour. This is strange for an ESB, or perhaps for any beer. Not good. Didn’t finish it.

Aroma: sweetly malty with a slightly rotten note; Appearance: hazy amber with billowy white head that dissipates pretty quickly; Taste: unfortunately, it follows nose; Palate: medium body with long, sickly sweet finish; Overall: drain pour. JohnGalt1 (1721) - Boise, Idaho, USA - NOV 9, 2015
Big 1.5" chunky slightly tan head... looong lasting with very nice sticky lacing. Brown side of amber brew... clear... pretty.
Aroma is fantastic.. toasty toffee malts and earthy hops.. fairly clean with only a touch of yeast esters.
Flavor is bigboned for the style... full maltiness and bracing bitterness... fairly big spicy and grassy hops.... I would guess English style malts are used, but could easily be wrong. Lite very lite brown malt presence.. intricate... above average complexity.. Body is lite medium.. but somehow it and the carbonation pulls everything together very well with a lingering full tongue finish. rdixon77 (2943) - Georgia, USA - APR 19, 2015
