1.2 AROMA 1/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 4/20
Aroma- smells terrible for an ipa. Definitely an aroma present, but smells atypical of northwest ipa’s.... More like a damp, mildew filled basement or something.
Appearance- looks nice, not black... Dark brown with a tan rocky head.
Taste- offensive to my palate. Maybe this was infected or something. Phenolic, plasticy... These terrible off flavors cover up anything that may be good underneath.
Palate- lacking in body and way over carbonated. Slightly astringent.
Overall- I can hardly believe that this is a commercial beer. When I saw the score of 90, I was floored. This beer is a drain pour. The only reason why I drank half of it was for these tasting notes. I seriously want my 4.50 for the bomber back. Awful!
22 oz bottle from notes. Pours dark brown in color with a small beige head. The aroma and flavor have roasted malts, chocolate, earthy bitterness, citrus and resiny hops, moderate bitterness, good. oldrtybastrd (5228) - Fort Walton Beach, Florida, USA - MAY 12, 2016
Pours a dark mahogany brown with fluffy tan head. Aromas of dark malts, touch of hops, and some woody bourbon notes. Smooth malty taste to start, then hops, JohnGalt1 (1721) - Boise, Idaho, USA - NOV 5, 2015
Nice looking creamy cappuccino looking head... descent lacing atop dark dark brown verging on black brew... still very clear with walnut highlites when held to a light... very much like a schwarzbier. jjgmd (2265) - Coral Springs, Florida, USA - AUG 31, 2015
Aroma is a very nice balanced mix of pine hops mixed with a little chocolate... not too roasty.
Flavor is a big smack of American hops and quite a bitter bite.. still very balanced though albeit toward the hop spectrum. Malts are chocolate and coffee not too sweet.. lingering grapefruit/piney finish that is fairly dry. Body is lighter than expected but IMHO that ramps up the drinkablity a notch or two... really the dark malts lend a very nice and fairly unexpected complexity.
A 22 with Z, pours a pitch black pour with a large foamy beige head. Nose is hoppy with pine and resin. Taste is bitter and hoppy with sweet malted chocolate . Finishes on bittersweet chocolate malted notes. Nice BIPA ! zgaier (1965) - Coral Springs, Florida, USA - AUG 31, 2015
Quaff Score 8 / 10
Bomber. Pours a dark brown with a tan head and aroma of hops, roasted malt, and citrus. Taste is of roasted malt and chocolate up front with hoppy, citrus notes into the dry, bitter finish.

From the 650 ml. bottle. It was bottle 03/11/15. Dark brown pour to near black and tan head. Aroma is more subdued in malts and more forward with charcoal and dark malts. Resiny hops. The body is smooth and around medium. The taste has a solid bitterness once I get through the roasted malts, which are far more subdued. From a 22 oz bottle shared at home. Pours a clear cola with an ecru head. Spicy nose. Flavors of grass and roasted nuts. Bitter finish. GreatDane1632 (1174) - North Dakota, USA - JUL 11, 2015
Rated based on notes taken 2 Aug 2012 -- I really dug this brew. The black IPAs are a brew I can get behind. p1meatloaf (256) - Corvallis, Oregon, USA - FEB 14, 2015

Looks brownish black. Smells mostly hoppy with a hint of dark malts. Tastes pretty good. Balanced for a American Black but not amazing
(Bottle) The initial taste is actually pretty good but there’s a very bitter piney citrus aftermath that is totally at odds with it. Very unbalanced and a poorly-constructed black IPA attempt although not without some merrit.
