Served from bottle into a Stone nonic. Pours a dark amber with a three finger off white head that is very frothy but subsided to one finger very slowly. Maintained decent lacing throughout. The aroma was comprised of sweet hops and malt. The flavor was of dark malt and hops. It had a medium feel on the palate with medium carbonation. Overall this was a very nice IPA. The head retention was epic on this one. Just glad I was able to try this one. The flavors and aromas were definitely on par for this style and it was one of the top black IPA’s I’ve tried to date.

(Bottle) The initial taste is actually pretty good but there’s a very bitter piney citrus aftermath that is totally at odds with it. Very unbalanced and a poorly-constructed black IPA attempt although not without some merrit.

On-Tap @ Bailey’s Taproom poured into Shaker glass. Pours a very deep, dark reddish-brown and edging that glows with a creamy tan colored head that lasts for sometime and remains a layer atop the glass. The aroma has sweet chocolate, roasted malts and some fruity hops, although faint. The flavor has much of the same although more sweetness and has a nice soft bitter finish. Its a medium bodied beer that is plenty carbonated and has a slightly dry finish. I found it to be a more balanced "Black IPA" than most others I have tried. Pretty good. It has a soft smokiness that becomes present as the beer the warms up.

Pours a dark brown with tan head. Looks too hazy for a "Black" IPA. Smells very distinctly of citrus and pine as advertised in the commercial description. Tastes a little too flat, a little too watered down to compete with other Black IPA. Good, not great.

Appearance has a nice dark brown amber color supporting a thick supporting head leaving fair lace. Smell has a nice balance of the malt and citric piney hop aroma. Taste is predominant black malt coming through with the sweeter palt malt coming through balanced by the hops. Mouthfeel is medium with good carbonation. One of the more enjoyable BIPA I’ve had.

very dark appearance with a nice head. Good taste of an IPA with a very nice malty finish to balance it out. Probably the best black IPA i’ve had.

Never had a black IPA before and not much a fan of dark beers so I didn’t really trust this going in. It’s not bad at all though. Smells legit, citrusy and sweeter than average for an IPA. Pour is AWESOME, gorgeous deep brown color with a huge bulbous tan head and insane lacing on the glass. Mouth is thick-ish and really nice. Flavor is good not great, definitely leaves something to be desired, it tastes like it’s good quality but all the complexities are extremely subdued and overwhelmed by the hops. An interesting and surprising brew with awesome intangibles, but lacking a bit where it counts, especially considering the price tag.

poured a cloudy dark ruby brown color with an uncontrollable head. musty citrus hop aroma. generous amount of carbonation. slightly sweet and piney hop flavors. malts not showing through that much. reminds me of what a belgian beer rendition of this beer style would be. tastes a little bit watered down and sour. not a bad beer for the style but not one of my favorites.

A great looking beer in the glass. Thick, tan pillowy head. Redddish, molasses color, transparent with some light bubbles. Mild aromas of sweet, mildly smoked roasted grains, a bit of bananna and bittersweet chocolate. More malty than hoppy, a nice departure from what you expect. Taste is fairly sweet up front, rolls to a mildly bitter, bite of sour finish. Refreshing, yet it bites back a bit on the finish. Slightly fizzy, with a slick finish that stays around. I would say this is a very nice departure from the usual IPA’s recently. Not overpowering in the hops flavors, well balanced, would go well with any beef or bbq meal. Nicely done brew.
