The first in our Purebred series of single hop A.P.A.s showcases the hop variety Citra. These are used for everything from bittering and flavor to aroma. The soft bitterness of the Citra hop makes this an extremely drinkable beer.

22oz bottle pours out a golden topped with a white head. Nose is pine citrus hops with some pineapple malty sweetness. Taste is more of the nice pine citrus hops along with a cereal malt.

Bomber from hayduke that we had together via facebook chat. Nice deep golden with a two finger off white head. Looks good. Lots of lacing. Citra is one of my favorite hops so I expect to enjoy this. That is certainly in the nose. Nice fruit that is tropical and citrus. Floral, too. The latter is tasted more than smelled. The hop is allowed to shine and it does so beautifully. This is good stuff. The finish was a bit on the dry side. That is such a good hop and they did a very good job in showcasing it.

Bomber bought at the grocery store. Bottled about a month and a half ago. Aroma is grapefruit, floral. Pours slightly hazy golden with a collapsing medium bone-white head. Taste has a medium-level bitterness backed by some candy sweetness. Not too clean. Pretty average overall. This says it was supposed to be the first in a series of single hop beers but there haven’t been any others since. What happened to this idea?

Citrusy aroma. Smokey aroma. Some floral. Clearaopearance. Golden colored. Thin head that receeds to a white ring around the glass. I get like hamburger in the smell. Citrusy flavor. Mild in the hoppiness department. Thin bodied. Abrupt finish. Taste a hint of tartness like grapefruit. Easy drinking beer i have to say.

2015-06-05. Very lightly hazy golden orange body with a small white head. 3+ Aroma starts out quite green and hoppy, musky then resin notes and some citrus. Flavour is similarly green up front, moderate resin, tropical fruit and mild citrus. Average bodied palate, good carbonation. Very drinkable. On tap at Edmonton Craft Beer Festival.

Bottle from Happy’s Market, Ellensburg, WA
Good dry APA, but it has almost more herbaceous content than the citrusy power expected by this hop. the aroma is also a bit bready. The final is sharp, almost metallic.
