22 oz. bottle from friends. Fairly dense, black pour on this one. Looks standard. Surprisingly, I’m get a fruity chocolate aroma. I only get hints of it, but it is akin to an amalgamation of raisins and strawberries. Weird things are happening with my nose. Hints of vanilla, oak, bourbon, syrup, and coffee come through. Graham cracker is there, too. Tastes of roast, bourbon, soft oak, dark fruit, pine hops, and a lite chocolate syrup. Now that I’m in better light, and topping off my cup, the appearance doesn’t seem as dense as I thought. Good stuff here, and it’s actually consumable, which for some imperial stouts these days, especially barrel aged varities, isn’t guaranteed. Good stuff, but not great.

Bottle - Sweet bourbon and some almost some sweet basil notes. Dark deep brown with a light brown head. Nice sweet bourbon notes and some herbal sweet hops. Agreat American version.

Bottle from Super Deli Mart, Seattle; bottled 11/12/15
Black color, with generous and compact head. Very nice aroma, there is also some ammonia and cheese rinds. Delicious chocolate flavor, moderately sweet, with elegant notes of vanilla, tobacco, cocoa nibs, walnuts.

22oz bottle. Pours a dark brown with a frothy tan head. Various flavor notes including coffee, chocolate, smoke and dark fruits. Also seemed to have a bit of a milk stout lactose sweetness and sourness as well. Kind of weird combo of flavors. This is good but didn’t like it as much as I had hoped.

stevoj (5869) - Boise, Idaho, USA - DEC 6, 2015
Bottle from Boise Co-op. Dark black pour, minimal head. Body is a bit thin, but all other characteristics are right on. Gentle aroma leads into richer and fuller taste, tons of roast grains. BBA elements a bit muted, but still a pretty solid RIS. One of the better ones from Idaho.

Foamy dark tan head lingered for a solid 5 minutes with great lacing... expected black brew. Nose has quite a bit of oak and whiskey notes that when cold dominated the dark malts and fruits.. this brew needs warmth to really shine. With warmth, coffee and cocoa start to come out alot more. Flavors are pretty much the same as the aromas but they emerge a little sooner, but it still needs to really warm up to allow the malts to help balance the heady wood and bourbon. Body seems a bit more thin compared to bottles of the regular I’ve had in the past. If my predictions are accurate, the bottles of these are going to need some time to meld.. but this was pretty enjoyable off tap.

On tap @ Rattle ì’n Hum NYC.

22 oz bottle, PDT 11/14/14- Pours black with a tan head that retains nicely. Aroma is bourbon, unique wood aroma here, strong, malt, roasted. The taste is similar, odd wood taste, bourbon is noticeable but not intruding, dark berries, red wine like, almost tart, like some unintended bugs got in there. Different.
