Aromas of bourbon, chocolate, some red wine, subtle burnt cherry, fennel. Black with a mostly lasting tan head, a little oily looking once the head fades. Dry, some astringency, earthy, woodsy, licorice and/or fennel flavors. Full bodied, boozy. Huhzubendah (3775) - Washington DC, USA - FEB 4, 2015
Dark brown near black bother you with a viscous beige head. Burnt toffee, ripe plum, oak, vanilla, chocolate, roasted malt. Flavor is a bit lacking. Sweet, finishing with a slightly harsh tannic note. Middle of the road. UDBeernut (2883) - Saint Johns, Florida, USA - JAN 25, 2015
Bottle from total wine JAX. Pours the part of any ole’ imply stout. Big bourbon nose. Taste is wood, vanilla, bourbon, anise. Lighter body than many BBRIS. Mild booze burn, over all decent. cobaink2 (845) - seattle, Washington, USA - JAN 22, 2015
On tap at beer junction. It runs really hot. Lots of pepper and Mexican vanilla and some cinnamon. Lots of bourbon flavor but needs some time to rest. conway (2210) - - JAN 18, 2015
Draft. Jet black pour with little head. Aroma is chocolate and bourbon barrel. Taste has a bizarre Windex thing going on and also adds some prominent vanilla on the finish. Not sure what’s going on here.

Salty toffee nose. Dark black with good legs. Bourbon cask aging provides a burnt caramel flavour with strong sweetness. WABeerFiend (426) - - JAN 16, 2015
UPDATED: APR 25, 2015 Label date of 12.30.13.
Poured from a bomber into a tulip on 06.04.14.
A: 2 finger tan head that retains well. Midnight black body with some red at the bottom.
S: Vanilla, bourbon, and chocolate.
T: Vanilla, bourbon, and chocolate dominate. Fig, very slight roastiness, and cherry are subtle.
M: Creamy silk. Perfect carbonation. Not too chewy, just perfection.
O: This is a well rounded BBA stout. It has complexity and is perfectly balanced. There is some alcohol burn on the back end. This is regularly $5.99 to $6.99 in the Seattle area, which is an incredible value.
EDIT FOR 2014 EDITION: Bottled 11.04.14. Poured from a bomber into a chalice on 03.14.15.
A: Bourbon, mint, oregano, bay leaf, plastic, and some milk chocolate. Wat.
A: Midnight black body. 2 finger off white head that recedes to foam and a large ring.
T: Mint, plastic, oregano, and bay leaf dominate. Woodiness, slight bourbon, and char are subtle.
P: Smooth and creamy,
O: This was such a perfect beer last year. The bourbon is barely there now. Mint and plastic dominate and linger forever now. What happened? I thought that my palate was messed up, so I ate some crackers and the same terrible flavor was there in subsequent sips. 3 bottles tasted the same and went down the drain. Predicable. Yeah, it’s very bourbon, but the beer lacks some depth and body. The bourbon flavor is really on showcase here and really isn’t what I was looking for... aroma is bourbon with some roasted coffee notes. Taste is mostly bourbon with roasted coffee and faint vanilla. maley1 (1301) - Calgary, CANADA - JAN 3, 2015
Black pour with thick small beige head. Aroma of roasted malts, coffee, chocolate, vanilla and bourbon notes, Taste of roasted malts, espresso, sweetened chocolate, caramel, vanilla and a nice subtle bourbon finish. Full bodied, creamy mouthfeel, well balanced, excellent beer! slimspady (218) - Lethbridge, Alberta, CANADA - JAN 1, 2015
Black pour. Fat beige head. Nice lacing. Coffee, cocoa. Initial bourbon noted that strengthens as it warms and lingers on the palate.
