Not too smoky, big imperial stout, but still not as smooth as I like an imperial to be.

This is a big beer. Lots of complexity to think through. Roasted malt with the darker malt providing probably a little too much astringency. The finish from the bourbon barrel is fun. Theres some vanilla in there too, thats nice.

Several year old bottle shared by alexsdad06 was an immediate gusher on opening. Nose some gym sock funk. Then some toffee, barrel, bourbon, and light mineral chocolate. Taste some fleeting tart funk up front, them some of the expected beer. Chocolate, mineral, and light barrel.

Smelled really bourbony, and definitely had the flavor, a little too dark malt burntness, not a lot going on beyond bourbon, dark malt, and booze.

Aroma of whiskey, plums and fruit, pours a dark black with a thin tan head. Taste of dark berries and malt with an oily feel and a bourbon and malt finish.

Picked up at Zyn in Calgary. Pours a midnight colour, khaki head, that dies to nothing, some spots of lace. Nose is very sweet, vanilla, booze, oak barrel. Tastes sweet, bitter, malty, boozy, vanilla, licorice, abc burn.

Aroma is roasted malts, caramel, light tart and chocolate. Taste is rich deep malts, toffee, caramel and dark chocolate. Light tart and dark sugars round out the experience. Appearance is black with a medium brown head that retains fairly well.

650ml bottle. Pours an opaque black with a medium, creamy, long lasting, tan head that laces nicely. Sweet aroma of roasted malt, licorice, bourbon, vanilla, dark fruit, chocolate and oak. Sweet flavour of roasted malt, dark chocolate, licorice, vanilla, dark fruit and oak with a dry, warming bourbon finish. Medium to full body with an oily texture and soft carbonation. Very nice.

22 oz. bottle from friends. Fairly dense, black pour on this one. Looks standard. Surprisingly, Im get a fruity chocolate aroma. I only get hints of it, but it is akin to an amalgamation of raisins and strawberries. Weird things are happening with my nose. Hints of vanilla, oak, bourbon, syrup, and coffee come through. Graham cracker is there, too. Tastes of roast, bourbon, soft oak, dark fruit, pine hops, and a lite chocolate syrup. Now that Im in better light, and topping off my cup, the appearance doesnt seem as dense as I thought. Good stuff here, and its actually consumable, which for some imperial stouts these days, especially barrel aged varities, isnt guaranteed. Good stuff, but not great.
