UPDATED: DEC 29, 2011 Bottle. The pour was a thick dark black with a huge (3-4 finger) medium brown creamy head that lasted a good long while letting the thick lacing sheet the glass rather nicely. The aroma was of a burnt dark bread malt, a mild resin hop and a sweet leathery yeast with notes of coffee, molasses, and dark chocolate with a mild alcohol tinge. It tasted slightly bitter and a bit malty with a strong coffee overtone in the beginning and then moved to a moderately bitter-sweet flavor with a smooth chocolate coffee finish that had a mild alcohol undertone at the end. The flavor lasted a nice long while letting the mocha coffee flavor settle nicely on the taste buds. Mouthfeel was thick and full in body with the texture being very smooth and creamy and having a soft carbonation. Overall a GREAT Stout that was so well balanced with tons of flavor that you hardly noticed the high alcohol content. In one word “YUM”.

Originally rated on 1/23/09. Dogfather pours a coal black body. The head mushrooms and then quickly subsides, decent lace is left. Aromas of sweet fruits at first, followed by chocolate and coffee. Flavors of earthy malts, chocolate middle and a burnt coffee finish. Mouthfeel is thick and creamy, overall a pretty decent imp. stout thats worth a spin.

Grunt fill from Growler Guys - Meridian. Near black pour, small fluffy beige head fades to ring. Roast grains and chocolate on the aroma, taste leans more towards the roast grains. Mild bitterness for the grains, hints of coffee and burnt toast. Silky smooth, chewy mouthfeel.

Thanks Beth. This was poured into a snifter. The appearance was a dark brown close to black color. Thin off white foamy head quickly dissipated leaving no lacing. The aroma starts with some rich sweet milk chocolate, sly coffee bean, a fair amount of vanilla, dried woody character almost like cherry wood. The flavor brings it all together - sweet with an underscore of dry bitter (coffee bean). Sly mainly sweet vanilla to cherry wood aftertaste. Quick smooth sweet finish. On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with a nice sipping quality about it. There was a bit of ruggedness to the feel. That grip tells me I probably could have aged this longer. Carbonation, still, feels appropriate. Overall, though I say I could have aged this longer, it probably would have helped smooth out the feel, still I would have this again.

Big black beer. Nice aromas of bitter chocolate, coffee, and smoke/tobacco? Doesn’t seem like 11% alcohol. Big flavor chocolate/espresso with a nice bite.

Bottle. Pours ruby black with a creamy one-inch head. Sticky lacing. Aromas of dark chocolate, toffee, licorice and roasted malts. Flavors are toffee, chocolate, vanilla, cream, coffee, and toasted bread. Creamy mouthfeel. Noticeable alcohol. Delicious.

Where: Old Line Fine Wine Spirits & Bistro. How: 22 ounce bomber bottle. Appearance: The color was a straight on black with a nice foamy brown head. Aroma: Smoky woodsy smell with some char coming through, dark fruits and an alcohol note developed. Taste: Roasted malts with bourbon, with dark fruit along for the ride, very complex flavor. Palate: Medium bodied with light-to-moderate carbonation. Overall: An outstanding imperial stout with lovely flavors from the bourbon barrels.

Boy, I’ve drank a lot of Imperial stouts lately. This was another one. It was pretty chocolate-y, like you might expect. Probably a vintage 2008 or 9, I can’t remember.
