Near black colour but with mahogany highlights. Aroma is of sweet chocolatey malts. The flavour is also sweet, the overall character rather lightish - mainly chocolate and sugar. Kind of like if you brewed a Foreign Stout specifically to serve as a dessert.
Draft at the brewpub. Aroma of toasted malt and coffee. Near opaque brown/black color with a tan head leaving lacey rings. Near full in body. Moderate in carbonation. Fair amount of coffee flavor dominating toasted/burnt malt. Finish is burnt malt bitter. Never distinguished hop. Very nice stout. Half way to Imperial? Sample at the Laurelwood Public House at PDX. Jet black pour with a medium khaki head that diminishes gradually to a film. Small patches of lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee and hops. Medium body with flavors of coffee, chocolate malt and earthy hops. The finish is roasty with a coffee aftertaste. Pretty good overall.
