Had on tap at the SE Brewpub. Aroma is roasty and malty with hints of coffee. Flavor is a great match of roasty and burnt flavors and has a ever so slight sweetness to it. Overall this is a great beer, very balanced and easy drinking. jennajlover (135) - Portland, Oregon, USA - JUN 13, 2015
Coffee and chocolate in nose and flavor. Nitro like carbonation and very dry stout type of finish. Makes a great breakfast stout. DYCSoccer17 (3706) - Woodland, California, USA - JUN 13, 2006
On tap at Laurelwood Publick House in Portland, OR. 5 ounce sample. Very roasted, assertive, chocolate and coffee-like nose. Plenty of coffee present. Very pleasant aroma. Opaque black color with a brown/tan frothy head with gorgeous lacing. Roasted, slightly bitter hoppy start, turning very rich and coffee-like later on. Some sweet chocolates are also present, which create a chocolate covered coffee bean flavor. One of the best beers I’ve had on this trip to the PNW. liquidhedonism (289) - Beaverton, Oregon, USA - NOV 8, 2014

UPDATED: DEC 27, 2003 Dry caramel aroma. Very rich, almost resembles an imperial. Quite sweet. some vinegar and alcoholic qualities, mixed with pine, and ending with a sharp and chalchy finish.

Pours a black color with a tan head. Roasty coffee aroma with hints of chocolate. This stout was very smooth on the palate with a great chocolate flavor that lingered on and on. Great sweet stout. maxwelldeux (4374) - Snohomish, Washington, USA - JUN 23, 2013
Draught. Pours a near black color with a moderate tan head on it. Nose is quite roasty and dark with some very subtle dark fruit elements underneath. Taste is roasty and slightly bitter, with a very faint hint of sour in there. Good brew. HumuloneRed (751) - Portland, Oregon, USA - JUL 12, 2004
Roasty sweet nose. Black as night. Appealing roast and chocolate in the flavor. Very smooth and creamy in texture. Creamy finish. This is a great stout. Fatehunter (2604) - Corbett, Oregon, USA - JAN 3, 2013
On tap in PDX near the "E" gates. One finger of tan head on a pitch black body.
Aroma is coffee, chocolate and roasted malt. Great balance and boldness.
The taste is coffee, chocolate and roasted malt with the chocolate really shining through.
Texture is silky with low carbonation and heavy body.
Overall an excellent beer. jimbowood (1036) - Freeport, Georgia, USA - FEB 27, 2009
draft at the NW location. more reminiscent of a lighter imp stout than a sweet stout. full bodied and flavorful.
