Poured into a mug, the appearance was a light brown color with a nice sustaining finger’s worth of light tan foamy head that fell off at a moderate pace. Light lace.
The aroma had some hazelnut roast, light ash/smoke, dark malts, subtle milk chocolate, sly dark chocolate with some earthy/grassy hop bitterness at the end.
The flavor was smoky with the hazelnut roast and sweetness fairly bold and up front. Mild smoky aftertaste and finish.
The feel was about medium bodied with a steady carbonation that was felt but fine. ABV felt fine. Pretty smooth/pillowy along my tongue.
Overall, super nicely done smoked beer that I would love to have again, that was a real treat. Thanks Mom and Dad! smaynard6000 (1167) - Apopka, Florida, USA - APR 15, 2016
On tap. Black in color with small beige head. Aroma is smoky with a bit of roasted chocolate malt. Mildly sweet with heavy smoke character. Medium bodied. I love smoked beers, and if you do, make sure to grab this if you can. It’s damned good. asheft (3082) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - MAR 4, 2016
Bottle--thanks, Thomas! Smoky sweet toasted hazelnut, vanilla, and faint mocha and some zesty hops. Clear but almost opaque garnet-black under a lasting, light brown flannel blanket. Sweet toasted hazelnut flavour with bitter dark chocolate and transcendent smoke that is not phenolic. Slightly spicy. Medium full body, medium high carbonation, smooth. corby112 (2804) - philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - NOV 11, 2015
Apparently some of these bottles are gushers but I had no such problem. Pours viscous and pitch black with a half finger beige head that immediately settles into a thin ring. Minimal spotty lacing.
Smokey dark malt aroma with subtle hints of charcoal, campfire and smoked meat followed by toast and roasted coffee bean. Decent smoke character but not overwhelming with sweet molasses, dark chocolate and toffee notes balancing things out.
Medium bodied with a subtle smoke character that isn’t nearly as strong as the nose suggests with lots of sweetness balancing things out. Slightly dry and acrid with some charcoal and burnt malt flavor countered by dark fruit, chocolate cake, oatmeal and coffee bean. Pretty clean until the finish which is very dry and earthy. Decently balanced and drinkable but has a bit tamer smoke character than I prefer. johnnnniee (4312) - Bedford, New Hampshire, USA - OCT 11, 2015
Bottle shared by someone Friday night, thanks for the opportunity!
Deep brown color, tan head. Rich caramel and hints of brown sugar along with a solid shot of smoked pork shoulder. A bit smokey for my tastes.

Hmm, nothing too spectacular going on here but it’s a nice porter overall. The pour is black w/ a thin tan head that leaves a ring of lacing. The aroma is softly smokey. The taste is a little coco up front w/ the smokiness taking over the middle & end. The body is a bit thin & beefing this beer up could really go along ways! pete4999 (1445) - Buffalo, New York, USA - OCT 4, 2014
Bottle. Different logo than the current picture though. Not as heavy on the smoke as I was expecting, which is fine because I’m a not a huge fan of the heavy smoked beers. Sweet, heavy in the coffee flavor actually. Kinda tastes like a sweet stout with smoked malt, something like the Left Hand Milk Stout or something. sample from Nate at bainbridge. Pours brown with light to medium coffee head, not much lace. Thick but not sticky and somewhat refreshing for style. Notes of chocolate malt, smoked almond, roast, peat, and light barrel. Nice malrubius (2897) - Springfield, Vermont, USA - JUN 13, 2014
Bottle from Liquor Outlet. Dark dark brown with thick coffee ice cream head and lace. Mild smoky aroma with raisiny fruit coffee chocolate cinnamon and sourdough bread. Very mild chocolate roasted coffee smoke and fig/raisin fruitiness. Roasted ashy fruity chocolate sweet finish. I realize you don’t want too much hops against the smoke, but some hops are definitely needed here. Surprisingly thin and watery feeling. Soft carbo. Tap at brewery. Pours dark brown with thin, beige head. Aroma is roasted malts, milk chocolate, light smoke, faint pork, and faint dark fruits. Flavor is dry, roast malts, chocolate, earthy hops, and some dark fruit sweetness; good flavor, but a little too thin. Light/medium body and medium carbonation.
