On draft pour. Black with a tannish head. Hops in the aroma, and more in the taste. Pine, citrus, and light pineapple. Very smmoth for the alcohol content. Thorpe429 (5122) - , Illinois, USA - APR 13, 2011
Picked this up at The Warren Store the morning of Night of the Funk 2010. Poured into a tulip and shared with bmanning, Amyliz4, and Heather. Batch 163, Bottle 17.
Pour is a very dark brown with an off white head. Plenty of light carbonation bubbles on top. Very nice lacing. The nose is very, very strong aromas of piney, resinous hops with a pretty good amount of roasted malt to back it up.
The taste is all about the pine and resin with a bit of darkly-roasted malt. The feel is extremely dry and bitter. Just an incredibly bitter beer. Even with that, it’s still quite drinkable.

Thanks to Michael for this rare Lawson’s...Brown beer with an off white head. A small cap forms, so-so lacing...This beer is total hop forward, does makes any bones about it. Hop bomb of flowers and grass, a little citrus helps to balance this pretty nicely...The taste is all hops and nothing else, way to strong its really tough to drink. So bitter, too hop forward.
Decent start but to much hops to drink. nickd717 (4999) - San Francisco, California, USA - JAN 11, 2011
Bomber thanks to Arbitrator. OMG rare, it says it on the bottle! Dark brown in color with a large cascading tan head. Good lacing. Earthy hop aroma, with wet leaves and some substantial roasty notes. Roasty flavor with slight bitter cocoa along with citrusy and earthy hops. Rather bitter. Medium-bodied and dry as hell, very resinous, with softer carbonation. Pretty nice IBA, but I’ve certainly had better as of late. nimbleprop (8949) - SouthWest, Washington, Washington DC, USA - DEC 28, 2010
750ml bottle pours a watery, translucent brown with a clumpy white head. Nose is all IPA, C-hops, grapefruit, earthy, lemon. Flavor is sweet, hoppy, oranges, lemons, malty, pine. Medium bodied, bitter finish.

Dark nut brown, large-bubbled cream head, bit of manure. Nose of pale malt, pine and earth, bit of bread crust. Flavor has long bitter finish, bit of graham cracker, pine, lightly creamy lengthy finish. Very balanced, as I’ve found most of their beers to be. 750mL waxed courtesy of nimbleprop. Pours a hazy, deep mahogany with an excellent tan to brown head. Excellent, infinite retention. Aroma of dank, fruity hops; smoke; toast, coffee malts. Taste is extreme nutty bitter, walnut skins, pecan skins, slight spicy alcohol. A wickedly intense Black IPA. 100+ IBUs all the way. argo0 (14127) - Washington DC, USA - DEC 20, 2010
22oz bottle, thanks ygtbsm94. Small tan head atop cola brown body. Aroma is moderately sweet, grapefruit, some bittersweet chocolate, light roast. Taste is much the same as the nose. Light-medium body. ryan (3185) - Beltsville, Maryland, USA - DEC 19, 2010
Tons of citrus hops in the nose along with plenty of dark malts - chocolate and roasted coffee. The taste is moderately sweet, moderately bitter, lots of chocolate, lots of caramel and a ton of citrus. Minor notes of dark fruit and dusty yeast. Bottle courtesy of bard, thanks! Muddy brown, huge beige head with good retention. Aroma of Christmas trees! Bitter edge with decent caramel, balanced and interesting.
