750mL waxed courtesy of nimbleprop. Pours a hazy, deep mahogany with an excellent tan to brown head. Excellent, infinite retention. Aroma of dank, fruity hops; smoke; toast, coffee malts. Taste is extreme nutty bitter, walnut skins, pecan skins, slight spicy alcohol. A wickedly intense Black IPA. 100+ IBUs all the way.

UPDATED: MAR 3, 2014 My Bottom Line:
Multifarious coniferous hops grow through roasting coffee beans and molasses, leading to a potent grassy bitterness in this intense but somehow balanced and cuddly Black IPA.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A persistent veil of foam surfs the darkness.
-This is quite redolent of their Chinooker’d IPA intensity-wise, and is in a similar flavor profile family to that of Smuttynose’s Imperial Stout, or The Alchemist’s El Jefe.
-The body is huggable and the carbonation soft and natural.
-The hop finish is also peppery.

Bottles and on tap a few times at Blackback Pub, Waterbury, VT.

Deep black pour with a tight tab head. The aroma is great. Loads of fresh earthy/citrusy hops along with some heavy cocoa and roasted malt notes. Assertive bitterness and a long lingering floral/citrus hop flavour. The roasted note really makes an appearance in this one. I dig it - although I think the roast could be dialed back. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draft. Pours near black with a tan head. Fruity citric hoppy aroma, with roasted malts and coffee. The flavor has great balance, with fruity citric hops, floral notes, light piney notes, coffee, and light roasted malts. Awesome.

Draft at blind tiger with Scarlett and Jeremy. Pours a black body with thick off white lacing. Aroma is super fresh pine hop and light smoke. Mouthfeel is medium, well carbonated with notes of pine, light citrus, smoke, and light grapefruit.

(Rating #2632)

Great IPA, thanks Jacob. Delicately roasted, hops shine here, citrusy, distan chocolate, light coffee. Very good black IPA

In short: Mollasses and resinous hops about in this kick-ass Black IPA.
How: Bottle 22oz. Consumed very fresh a few weeks after the beer was bottled. Tasting session with Montreal crew
The look: Black body topped by a long-lasting small beige head
In long: Nose is roasted, citrusy and pine-tree. Body is big and slightly viscous with a a lot of molasses and caramel. The beer has a whole lot of hop of hops and then some more. The hopping character comes through a mainly resinous with citrusy and coniferous notes. Roasted level is high, even relative to the Dark IPA style. Very bold and tasty. This new one-man pico-brewery keeps delivering one kick-ass beer after another. That dude has a brighter future than a hard-working bailiff in the crumbling Detroit city.
