Bottle. rare batch79 bottle 50. Pours black with a tan head that left spotty lacing. Roasty earthy hoppy aroma. Flavor was roasted barley with citrus zest, grassy hops, pine and had a touch of caramel with a smooth & creamy finish. SrSilliGose (3331) - pouring bus, New Brunswick, CANADA - MAY 1, 2012

On tap at Three Penny Taproom in Montpelier, VT. Pours a black body with an inch thick, dense, creamy and frothy, darker brown head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing throughout. Aroma is solid with lots of citrus grapefruits, tangerines, and fresh pines with a nice chocolate and caramel malt backing as well as a dry, balanced, moderate roast. Flavor is just as nice. Lots of fresh citrus pines up front with some juicy resins coming through. Solid chocolate in the middle with some caramel that still allows the hops to shine as well as the really nice roastiness that comes in. Finishes dry and balanced with a moderate, roasty and piney bitterness along with a nice citrus and chocolate. Lengthy aftertaste following a smooth, medium body and a soft, moderate carbonation. Overall, this is one of the better Black IPA’s that I’ve had. Lots of citruses and pines, but a really nice, balanced, big roastiness that gives this a nice dryness all blending with a solid chocolate note. Pretty impressed. Draft @ Black Back. Pours a deep burnt umber with two fingers of thick tan foam. The nose is grassy, piney and full of roasted chocolate. The palate is smooth and velvety with a nice carbonation level and flavors to match the nose. Big chocolate roast, sticky pine and a long super roasty finish that holds a good bitterness and cleans up the palate on the finish ! ryan (3186) - Beltsville, Maryland, USA - DEC 19, 2010
Tons of citrus hops in the nose along with plenty of dark malts - chocolate and roasted coffee. The taste is moderately sweet, moderately bitter, lots of chocolate, lots of caramel and a ton of citrus. Minor notes of dark fruit and dusty yeast.

Overall, a really good with a nice smokey black malts and hoppy taste. wedgie9 (2702) - Nashville, Tennessee, USA - SEP 22, 2014
From old notes, tasted with Curtis and some friends in Nashville, probably some time near the summer of 2012, from bottle. Pours opaque, nearly black dark brown with a thick brown head that leaves average lace. The nose is a really nice blend of dank green earthy hops, along with both dark and milk chocolate. The flavor is very dry and nicely balanced milk chocolate malt up front, moving to the dank earthy hops and dark chocolate bitterness. The body is medium with average carbonation and a long super hoppy and bitter dark chocolate finish. Fred82 (2324) - Québec City, Quebec, CANADA - OCT 25, 2010

Appearance : Pitch black with a big creamy brown head. Nice lacing.
Aroma : Great fresh leafy and citrusy hops. Nice passion fruits.
Taste : Great hops, leafy, fresh and citrusy again. Light roasted malt. Finish is a bit roasty with light notes of coffee.
Overall : Great hop profile. Really enjoyable an tasty. Among the good examples of the style but not a top example. Still very clean and well made like everything from Sean Lawson !

Bottle from hbmason! Pours a dark brown color with a thin tan head. Aroma has roast, dank resiny hops and pine. Taste is semi-sweet and bitter. Thin bodied with a dry finish. One of the better examples of the style.
