Sampled from bottle at DLD ’12. Pours a dark brown/black color with a medium sized beige head. The aroma has roasted malts, chocolate, with a hop profile that is citrus, earthy and mildly herbal. The flavor shows a nice balance between the roasted malts, chocolate and even sweeter caramel with the bold citrus and earthy hops. Black IPA’s are something I only enjoy when done very well and this fits the bill. TaktikMTL (8014) - Montréal, Quebec, CANADA - SEP 2, 2009

Black pour with a big tan head. Aroma up front is citrus and a ton of roasted malt. Flavor puts some nice resinous hop notes in as well as some chocolate, coffee, and more roast. Luckily this one doesn’t get astringent at all, and has just enough of an alcohol bite to it. Body was full, rich. Nice bitter finish on this one. Yum! Bottle… Midnight black ale with a creamy, beige head. Good retention. The burnt, dank aroma furnishes bong water with lesser notes of vanilla and cocoa. Full-bodied with a whole-milk mouthfeel and laid-back carbonation. The flavor is burnt, bitter, mildly acidic and acrid. Finishes tangy, carbonic and bitter. Bottle courtesy of ctipping! Black pour, bubbly tan head. Coffee, roasted malt and citrus hops in the aroma. Citrus hops, pine, grapefruit, followed by a blast of coffee, toasted malts, slight dark caramel - very nice. medium body, carbonation is right. I prefer the VBA, but this is a worthy substitute - drinks likes 5% and a beer that I could gladly have multiple bombers of. pfriesen (125) - Richmond Hill, Ontario, CANADA - JUN 8, 2012
