Southern Pecan Nut Brown Ale is the first beer in the world, to our knowledge, made with whole roasted pecans. The pecans are used just like grain and provide a nutty characteristic and a delightful depth to the flavor profile. This beer is very lightly hopped to allow the malty, caramel, and nutty flavors shine through. The color is dark mahogany. Southern Pecan won a Bronze Medal in the 2006 World Beer Cup in the Specialty Beer category.

Btl. Pours clear, reddish brown color with a thin, tan head that vanished quickly, no lace. Smells of wood, caramel, raisins, molasses and a hint of nuts. Taste is sweet toffee with a faint roasted nut flavor with no hop prescence. Light body, watery texture, flat carbonation and minimal hop bitterness. Intriguing and interesting story on the bottle made me think this was going to be an awesome beer. Unfortunately it left me disappointed.

There were so many beers I drank on this trip that I barely remember drinking. Goes to show what kind of trip it was!

Pours dark amber with a frothy head that does not last. Aroma is caramel and somewhat earthy. Taste is caramel malt up front with the pecan becoming more noticeable during the finish. Straightforward - there are no unexpected twists or turns here, good or bad. Reminds me of some of the nut brown ales I went through years ago in England. Body is overall just a touch too light for my liking. Its not watery, but a more assertive profile would raise the rating. Overall, nice.

Bottle from Old Chicago. Caramel colored and clear, slight head and medium bodied. Not a hint of pecan. Little aroma, sweet malt taste and slight hops bitterness at the end. Not all that great.

Trying this with a cold, soooooo. But with one nostril I detect a mild nutty aroma. Flavor is like a watered down brown. I only get a hint of pecan.

Aroma: roasted caramel and malty, nuts. Appearance: clear amber color and thin white head. Taste: low herbal bitterness, pecan nuts, roasted caramel, roasted dark malts, dry. Palate: medium body and medium carbonation, roasted finish. Overall: Rather average beer, should be more intensive.

12 fl. oz. bottle for 3,29 Euro at Craft Beer Konto Hannover. Clear dark red brown with a small head. Malty on the nose, little bit hay and hop. Taste is malty, little bit toasted, little bit hop, little bit citrus, hints of some floweresque hop in the background. Medicore.
