3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
750ml from Arden Wines. Good-looking ruby pour without explosions; forms a dense, uneven beige head and keeps it. Mellow, subtly roasted aroma like plain chocolate digestive biscuits with a locust bean/carob back note. That taste with a likeable soft lactic chocolate character; underpinning roast and black tea bitterness; grilled pepper and subtle dankness adding a layer of complexity. Really good like a blend of a schwarzbier/black lager with a dank English mild or stout. Might have to rethink one or two of my prejudices about French beer....
Pours deep brown with an off white head. Aroma is caramel, nut, bread and a touch of roast. Taste is light bitter bite that is quickly overtaken by sweetness. Medium bodied, smooth and overall enjoyable. csaso (2266) - Missouri, USA - DEC 31, 2015
Bottle - barely any head, murky dark brown color, malty aroma and flavor, a little nutty, moderate earthy hope, a little of a flat finish, ok overall I guess, expected a little better

Bottle. Pours a clear amber body under a one finger fizzy beige head that faded to a thin covering. The nose is a little sweet and malty, but with some fruitiness and a yeasty undertone. The flavor is a lot more malty than I was expecting, there’s a slight funkiness to this which I’m not sure is intentional perhaps. Slightly toasty and sweet maltiness, a heavy yeast influence. Medium bodied with very active carbonation. Meh, this one is the worst of the bunch that I had from this brewery. Had to take a chance at $3 for a 750 though. boxofrane (2553) - Spring City, Pennsylvania, USA - SEP 17, 2015
Bottle from wegmans. Pours reddish brown with a small tan head. The aroma has biscuit, rye bread, dark fruit, a bit of a molasses. The taste has a bit of a chocolate note, some roasted malt, a bit thin and sweet on the finish. FlandersNed (395) - , Indiana, USA - SEP 4, 2015
25.36 oz bottle. Clear brown hue. A musty old cardboard nose. Earthy, dusty, moldy nut, leafy notes with a touch of redeeming cocoa. Medium+ body and carbonation. Ugh...

Bottled 02/03/14. A dark brown coloured beer with an off-white head. Properly Belgian in feel. Malty and fruity. Good yeasty notes. Good character. A tasty Belgian styled ale. lachrymalisis (441) - Washington, USA - JAN 5, 2014
oily palate, diacetyl and stillness are the memorable characteristics of this beer. some decent earthy malt flavors under the fermentation problems, but that butterscotch is just too much. keepersj12 (3115) - Sicklerville, New Jersey, USA - DEC 13, 2013
The nice caramel and biscuit aroma is the best part if this beer. The flavor has some caramel and a bit of peppery hops. It is very thin and watery.

Shared a 75cl bottle from the brewery. It pours a brown colour with a nice head. Aroma is hoppy and caramel. Flavour is bitter turning to a dry end. Good! thornecb (5882) - Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA - AUG 12, 2013
Pours deep brown into a tulip. Off-white head with little retention recedes to mottle surface leaving spot lacing. Dark pit fruit and caramel aromas. Dry with sweet caramel, nuts and bread upfront turning to mild mocha in the lasting finish.
