Bottle at the Semi-Final Tasting. Deep brown color with a small head. The nose is sweet caramel and powdered sugar, cola sweetness. The taste is very fruity - blackberry, cranberry. A bit tangy indeed. Lightly lactic, with a big runny toffee malt base. Medium body, soft carbonation. Perhaps this has a mild infection? Overall, I dont seem to be a massive fan of the style. This was OK.

Scopey (13323) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - JUL 2, 2012
Bottle at Leightons Euro Semi-Final tasting, thanks to jackl. It pours almost black, with a medium tan head. The nose is roasted malt, charcoal, coffee, salted caramel, toast and toasted coconut. The taste is tangy dark fruit, charcoal, blackcurrant, cherry, raisin, roasted malt, cola and balsamic vinegar. Medium body, moderate carbonation and foamy mouth-feel. To me this doesnt taste like a classic milk stout, but its a decent beer nonetheless.

Bottle from Rehills in Newcastle. A black beer with a quickly disappearing thin tan head. It has a rich chocolate, liquorice and plum notes with a sweet warming fruity finish.

Bottle from Great Grog. Nose is big milky, cheap vanilla sauce, chocolate, some pepper, weirdly vegetal also. Sour milk!? Sweet lactose notes, some salty seaweed, liquorice, sticky bitter finish. Interesting, vegetal, very VERY odd, but not entirely unpleasant.

In bottle. Pours a dark brown colour with a fair, light tan head. Aroma of chocolate, treacle, coffee and a little sweet and vegetal. An odd lactic flavour with cabbage, grassy hops, alcohol and yeast. Moderate carbonation and an oily mouth-feel. Strangely alluring with lingering alcohol and yeast.

Cask, Peterborough Fest 11. Near black with a beige foam. Aromas earthy, rich roast coffee with liquorice and soy. Caramel with some chocolate. Smells strangely of rock pools. Flavours are sweet coffee with caramel and soy. Bitter grapefruit with earthy notes. Liquorice with raisins and dark chocolate bitterness. A really good stout.
